"Miss Alda, your next meeting with Judge Taylor will be tomorrow at 8 am and then we have to get to downtown to meet with the Anderson client to go over the settlement."
My assistant, Angel, or Angelica as her mother calls her, ran over my meetings for tomorrow at a break neck speed. After a year of working closely together, we could understand each other's rushed and stumbled words like no other.
"I understand." I nodded at her as she took her leave. Sitting at my desk I started to work on the Anderson file. A simple settlement with the property owner, but a bigger case than I have been given to work on solely. An accomplishment, Angel whispered to me when Mr. Smith, the lead partner of Wright and Associates, handed me the case.
I've only been at W&A for a year, having been hired right at graduation. I was currently the only associate of the firm. It started only five years ago, but has become the top business law firm in the city. Safe to say, when I applied I never really thought I'd get the job.
Angel told me it was because I didn't swoon at the sight of my boss – Carter Wright.
My typing stopped at the thought of the man who clawed his way to the top of the law firm in such a short time. He was easily the most handsome man I had ever seen – the very definition of tall, dark, and handsome. To most he was the formidable, handsome man who was rumored to be able to steal your wife and sue you at the same time (an unethical rumor, but one Angel was happy to whisper if given the chance).
However, I felt nothing but the normal reverence one feels for a legend in their field. Not once has my heart fluttered for the man or my cheeks turned red when he looks my way. Carter Wright is not for me.
Because I had a mate.
Who cheated on me.
Who crushed my heart.
I, Violet Marie Alda, would never feel anything for a man, because I had loved a werewolf who betrayed me.
