I hadn't spoke to Huda for a week now and I was getting quite worried. I wondered if she wasn't just interested in our friendship anymore or if I had done or said something to offend her. I thought about stopping by her house a few times but I was a bit apprehensive about it. I didn't want to intrude especially when I wasn't sure of where we stood exactly. I just hoped that she was alright and nothing bad had happened to her. I'd lay awake all night thinking about her and her sensational laugh and bright smile, she was immensely gorgeous. I often said to myself that if her inconsistent lover boy Faisal wasn't in the picture I'd maybe have a good chance with Huda.
Faith was the only explanation to how Huda picked my car that day, picked ME that day. Loads of cars on the road that Friday evening and she chose mine. We shared such a special and surreal moment in the car and when we looked at each other nothing in the world could change the way she made me feel. Cancer couldn't even compete with Huda, cancer never stood a fighting chance against Huda. Her resilience and spontaneity made me forget about chemotherapy, several doctors appointments and all the mayhem in my life. She made being alive more exciting and I just really missed her.
I remember this one time when we were texting and I was confiding in her, telling her things about my life that were so intimate and personal. I was in such a shit mood and I needed someone to talk so. Rather than consoling me the old fashioned way by telling me the basic "everything will be okay, I promise" line. She on the other hand decided to tell me a joke."So the past, present and future walk into a bar...."
"Okay... that was hilarious?"
"Don't cut me off! I wasn't done telling the fucking joke "
"Proceed"
"Okay so the past, present and future walk into a bar.
It was TENSE""Lmaoo! Kevin Hart better watch out because you're gonna give him a run for his money "
"Tell me something I don't know"
She was the only person who could actually turn my frown upside down and I really appreciated that.
"Ali could you please watch Zainab for a while? I have some school work to catch up on" Jamila said
After Jamila had Zainab she had to grow up fast. One day you're a teenager living life to the fullest and then the next you're pregnant with your brothers best friends child. It's funny how life can just change up on you like that. Speaking of my supposed best friend, apparently Khalil was seen by Jamila's friend with some girl the other day at a restaurant. Jamila then decided to call him and confront him and rather than lying like he usually would he decided to just comply and agree to Jamila's allegations. Long story short, they broke up.
"I'll watch her on one condition."
"Cant you just do this for me? Without conditions?" She asked while rolling her eyes
"You know that can't happen Jamila. Getting on the nerves of the one person that is even contemplating babysitting your child isn't the right move, fix up." I replied with an authoritative tone
"Name it"
"A friend of mine is an event planner and I'd like for you to go over to this address and tell her you'd like to throw a birthday party for your brother. You're going to have to be very smart about it. You can't screw this up for me okay?"
"Well firstly, your birthday is two months away so I'm a bit confused and secondly, the last time you asked me to do something this elaborate for you it was because you had a crush on some girl. Tell me straight up if that's what's happening again."
