despite the nurse's pleas
i ran outside to look for you
to thank you
to wrap my arms around you
but when i saw you
my smile faded
because you were with her
your arm around her shoulders
my world stopped
the silence slowly settling
and then i pushed past you
and ran
while you shouted
"liz!"
but i couldn't hear you
i could hear anything
as i realized how much i was drowning in my own delusions
