Chapter 3 "Move in"

*2 months later*

Today's Saturday & it's move in day for my niece. I'm driving her to the dorms. Technically move in day is next week, but because of my schedule & her mom's this is the only time I can drop her off. Plus I'm the one with a car.

Michelle works her ass off, and she didn't want to call off when she can easily check in on Summer during her lunch break.

"So you ready for college Summer?" I asked. I looked over as I drove and saw her slouched down in the seat on her phone.

"Yeah I guess. It's gonna be different not being at home, especially helping out with Ma and everything." She said.

"Yeah but you'll still get to see her basically everyday. How many classes are you taking?" I asked.

"Five. It's just the basic math & science classes. I won't get into my major classes until later." She said. I pulled into the university & followed the directions they had for freshmen moving in.

"Alright you can go ahead & hop out to get your student card and keys. I'll make a loop and wait." She got out the car and I drove off. It was practically empty since this is an unofficial move in day, but there were a few cars out.

I sent Michelle a text saying we made it as I waited. It's 10am and I know she's probably chilling at work. I chuckle at all the times she's either called or texted me while she's at work. If it's not her coworkers she's annoyed with, it's these rich ass kids she gotta deal with.

About 15 minutes later Summer came back with a packet and keys in her hands. She got in and gave me the directions to her dorm.

"This school smart to have students helping y'all with y'all stuff." I said.

Summer laughed. Parents don't have to carry all these heavy ass bags. I literally just had to pull my car up in front of the building and these kids had rolling bins for us.

"Auntie I'll call you to tell you what floor I'm on." Summer said.

"Alright." Once I saw her and the students roll her stuff into the building, I parked my car and went inside.

After two hours of unpacking my things, which wasn't much, my aunt left. I'm so grateful for her because she took me grocery shopping and made sure my side of the dorm was exactly how I wanted.

I did not expect my aunt to go all out with my room stuff. She bought everything from lights, mattress foam pad, tons of pillows & even pictures to hang on the wall. She said she wanted my room to be dope. And it is. This bed feels better than the one I have at home.

I chilled for a few hours until it was time to go to work. Yes, day one of moving in and I'm already working. I was able to get a job at the Wendy's here and it's only like a 10 minute walk from campus. That may seem like a lot but I speed walk so I'm good.

Sighing, I finally got out of bed. I laid my uniform out and took all of my bathroom necessities to the community bathroom. We got common showers so all the girls on the floor have to use the same bathroom stalls and showers. It's not a problem to me. As long as the water pressure good, I got no problems.

Thank God my auntie hooked me up with a shower caddy & shoes because I REFUSE to get any diseases on my feet. After I showered, I walked back to my room & put coconut oil all over my body. I got dressed and because it's still super early to clock in, I'm going to visit my mom.

"Mama!" I yelled walking up to her. She looked at me briefly. She was talking to someone and I waited until she finished her conversation.

"Girl why you yelling like that?" She said. I mean, no one in here anyways.

"Sorry. I just wanted to stop by before I head to work." I told her.

"Okay did you get everything you needed with Kelly?" She asked.

"Yes. My room looks really cool. When can you come look at it?" I said.

"Not today sweetie. By the time you get off work I'll be headed on the bus. You know I hate missing busses." I nodded my head. Am I sad? Yeah, but she can see it another time.

"Alright well I'll let you finish working. I'll see you tomorrow?" I asked.

"Yes baby. I have a morning shift and after that I can visit your room." I smiled and hugged her before I left the cafeteria. I walked to Wendy's and went inside to speak to the manager to see what I'll be doing today.

Bathrooms. Just great.
