The Dare

Jenny was walking off the bus looking at her new school.  She looked around seeing students hugging each other glade to see them.  Jenny had no one to go and hug here.  As well as no one that knows she had lost her mother no sympathetic glances.  She smiled, she is strong and smart soon people here would know it as well.

She walked over to a group of kids, almost all the girls had cheerleading outfits on and the boys had football jerseys on.

She went up to who she thought was the head cheerleader.  She was setting in the lap of a football player  his arms were wrapped around her hips.  “I want to know if I can join still this late in the year.”  She said firmly.

The girl looked up at her saprized to see her there let alone talking to her.  “And what makes you think you can join?”  She stood up.  “You might be new here that does not mean we have to allow you in.”   She stood up keeping eye contact with Jenny.

“Becky  Come on she is new lets see if she is good.”  the boy that was wrapped around her stood up intertwining there fingers together.

“Look at her James do you really think she is?”  Becky said pointing at Jenny.

“You might be right.”  James said.

“Go now.”  Becky waved her off and sat back down with the group they all started to laugh.

Jenny bit her tongue and took a deep breath in through the nose.  She turned away from them and walk away.  The way her parents have always told her to do.

She walked away from them.  She walked pass some kids to get to her first class room.

After her first two classes came brake.  She was walking over to the snack bar as she passed the same table James was talking in a low creepy voice everyone was leaning in to hear what he was saying.

“The house up on Ame’s hill is said to be hunted by a ghost of an old witch that felled from Salem.  No one has ever survived a night in there alone.  On Halloween night people have even seen the house glow misty blue from the top room.”  Jenny had stopped to listen to his story.  “any one here brave enough to go there?”  he smiled.

The whole group shook their heads.  “Scaredy cats.”  Jenny said continuing walking to the snack bar.  Becky stood up and looked at her.

“You think you are brave enough to stay the night there on Halloween?”  She said leaning on the table looking at Jenny.

“Yes.”  she said with a straight face.

“Really.  You think you are braver then us?”  she said putting her hands on her hips.

“Yes.”  Jenny held her head high.

“Okay let’s take a bet.”  Becky said.

“No Becky lets not.”  an other girl said.

“No Stephenie she is the one that thinks she is braver then us.  If you wimp out… What is your name?”  Becky asked.

“Jenny.”  She said taking a step closer to the group.

“Well then Jenny if you wimp out like we all know you will you have to be Mrs. Gibby.”  She smiled.

    “Who?”  Jenny asked.

“The mascot from our rival school.  It is a Bear costume and at each rally some one dresses up as her and we all throw food at it.”  She smiled.
