Shoving my books in my bag, I walked out of class. Appearing from nowhere, a tall figure came up next to me.
"Hello." It said with its beautiful tenor voice.
"Hi." I slid the last book into my bag. Looking up for a brief second at the handsome guy next to me I said, "um, excuse me. I have to go meet someone."
"And who would you be meeting, exactly? As far as I can tell, you don't know anyone here." He steered me in between two buildings as he talked.
"H-how do you know that?" My voice shaking a little. I wasn't sure what this stranger wanted with me, and my experience at my pack's school led me to believe it wasn't something good.
"I've had my eye on you; not many wolves from your pack come to school here. Makes me wonder what you're doing off your pack's land." He stopped behind the lecture hall building and turned to face me, bracing himself against the wall with one hand.
I gripped the strap of my bag with both hands as I stopped walking. I didn't know who he was, but now I knew he was a wolf, and that he knew that I was one too.
He turned and placed his hands against the wall on either side of my head. "So, who are you and what are you doing here wolf?"
My eyes widened and my hands started to shake. "I, um. Sam. Samantha." I shook my head. "Uh, I'm just here to school. To go to school." I cringed as I stumbled across my words.
"Come now Samantha, you must have a better reason than that. Like I said, it's very unusual for a wolf from Midnight Star to live on the outside." Speaking smooth and slow, he cajoled me for answers.
"I'm just here to uh..." Speaking quietly I trailed off.
"To what, Sam?" He pushed.
"To find my mate, okay!" I spit out, frustrated he was digging into me like this. Crossing my arms I lifted my eyes finally to glare at him.
He stared back, amused. "I see..." His voice trailed off, as both of us came to a sudden realization.
"Oh my gosh. You..." I couldn't even finish a sentence.
He pushed off the wall and ran his hand through his hair, the cool collected manner he had disappeared.
"Gosh, sorry. I'm Jayden." He half went for a hug, paused, and decided to hold out his hand for me to shake instead. I took his hand, immediately feeling warmth and tingles up my arm. Not even letting go he said, "I guess your search is over. I'm, uh. I'm your mate."
He had this goofy grin on his face, like he couldn't believe what he was saying. He pulled back his hand, and I mine; looking at it like I could see the sparks that had been flying across my skin. I tilted my gaze back up to see his face change as he began to speak again.
"Sorry about the whole interrogation thing." He gestured toward the wall widely. "I just had to make sure you weren't, you know, a threat to my pack, or something."
"Yeah, no. It's fine." I dismissed it with a small wave. "Wait, did you say, your pack? Are you...?"
"The Alpha? Yeah." He finished for me. "Well technically, I'm still in training."
"Oh, okay." I was surprised. Despite Ash's reassurances, the mentality of the rest of my pack-mates wore me down. I didn't ever think I could be an Alpha's mate. I rubbed my forehead trying to process what all had happened.
"Do you, uh, have another class?" He looked me nervously. "Because my friends are meeting at the pizzeria to study, if you wanted to come along?"
