"Jaime!" I shouted and he shot me a small smile.
I would have smiled back but just then, the bear roared loudly and backed off a bit.
"Get behind me!" he ordered, coming over to me.
"I will not!" I shot back.
Just because I was a woman didn't mean I didn't know how to fight. I didn't want nor need a man's protection. Jaime helped me to my feet as the bear came closer again. He stood in front of me and Brienne, shielding us from the beast. It roared again and swiped a paw at us. Coming closer and closer, we backed up nearer to the wall.
Suddenly, an arrow flew through the air and embedded itself in the animal's fur. We turned our heads upward to see a man with a crossbow.
"What are you doing to my bear?" Locke yelled at him angrily.
The man shrugged in response, "Lord Bolton charged me with bringing him back to King's Landing alive and that's what I aim to do."
The bear shook its head all around to shake off the arrows. He was getting agitated. I shot a fearful look towards Jaime. The same look of fear on my own face was mirrored in his. He ran over to the wall then.
"Pull them up!" he shouted to the men above and bent down in the dirt.
The bear had shaken the arrows off by now and was coming back at us again. Brienne and I climbed onto Jaime's back, careful not to hurt him. The men held out their hands to us and groaning, we latched onto them. They pulled us up slowly and finally, we both had made it to the top. I immediately dangled myself back over the edge.
"Hold my legs!" I demanded.
The men obliged when the noticed who I was. I held my hands out to Jaime just as the bear came charging towards him at break-neck speed.
"Jaime, grab on!" I screamed.
He jumped up and grabbed onto a foot-hold on the wall just as the bear reared up, growling and roaring at Jaime. He struggled to hold on and I felt fear clench my chest. I reached my hand out farther and finally, with his flesh hand, he grabbed onto mine. With all my might, I pulled him upwards.
"Pull him up!" I cried out.
The men held onto Jaime and did as I bid them. He fell to the floor of the scaffolding with a thud. Locke come to stand over him, glaring.
"The lady stays," he stated harshly.
I clenched my fists at his statement while Jaime picked himself up.
"We're taking her to King's Landing. Unless you kill me," Jaime challenged him, his voice hard.
"She belongs to me. Lord Bolton's orders." Locke said coldly.
"What do you think is more important to Lord Bolton? Getting his pet rat a reward or ensuring Tywin Lannister gets his son back alive?" Jaime bit back.
Locke put a hand on his sword but seeing all of Jaime's men put a hand on theirs, relented.
"Well, we must be on our way." Jaime said to Locke, smiling as we turned to leave.
He stopped then and leaned in close to Locke's ear.
"And if you ever lay a hand on Lady Joan again, I'll gouge out your eyes." he smirked.
Jaime grabbed my hand then and pushed through the crowd as we made our journey back to King's Landing.
