1|The City of Dreams

1 September

Dear Diary,
Mumbai. The city of dreams. Why do people go there? The answer is clearly written. It's for the fulfilment of dreams. Mainly to become successful In life. Can being successful be the best revenge? I'd asked myself this repeatedly. After thinking about this question day after day I finally know the answer...

Sameer Sighania stopped writing. He traced the last lines written in the journal silently with his eyes. With a sudden gesture he lifted his head and threw the pen and book on top of his backpack.

"Payal." He grunted shaking the figure that lay under the blanket besides him as he sat on the lower berth. "Uth jao [Wake up]."

"NO." Payal's muffled voice spoke from under the material and Sameer simply sighed rolling his eyes back. "Even if world war III starts, not even then."

The train had stopped abruptly at a platform and now was their time to go get themselves food to fill their empty stomachs but Payal wasn't showing any signs of getting up.

Sameer's eyes wandered around, his voice raising in anticipation as he watched his sister from the corner of his eye noting down her reaction. "Is that gol gappe I see?"

The berth they were seated on shook as Payal rose from her lying position at the speed of lightning. Her wavy hair disgruntled from the sleep and her eyes widening like crystals she echoed, "Gol gappe?"

Sameer watched his sister quietly as she devoured most of the gol gappe he had bought for the two of them

Sameer watched his sister quietly as she devoured most of the gol gappe he had bought for the two of them. Even eating like a hungry gorilla didn't change the fact she was a ravishing, beautiful young woman who was pretty as a picture without making any effort.

"If you're wondering, I still haven't forgiven you." Payal said, the mirth visible in her voice as she sucked onto her finger devouring the last of the mouthwatering liquid.

Although her brother knew that to get to her he had to get through her stomach, she wasn't easily going to give in.

Sameer's poker face appeared. Placing his hand on his hip and with the other he gestured towards her. "Okay, then I want you to take out what you've just eaten." A scowl appeared on her lips. "Go on then. I'm waiting."

"Aise kaise? [How?]." Payal panicked.

"All throughout the train ride you've given me the silent treatment, and it's worked because now I feel guilty!"

"Well you should." Payal huffed because she was glad of it. "For you I left my friends, my home-"

"Our home." Sameer corrected. "Why don't you understand what I'm doing is for the benefit of me and you?"
