'Did he seriously seriously just ask me out for drinks? Well lunch?' I ask myself my head spinning. "I thought he hated me?" I mumble to myself as I walk into my office. I spin on my heels when I hear someone clear their throat behind me. My thoughts instantly going to the worst until I see Sophia AKA the 'Heart' of Four Cards.
"Who hates you Darlin?" She says a smirk playing across her face.
I look her up and down noticing she just changed her hair color again for like the millionth time. Its now a light shade of pink. My eyes fall to the business suit she's wearing and smile. She and King are the only ones who feel like they have to dress formally for this job. "Oh just your new puzzle to figure out." I state as I walk into my bathroom and brush my teeth.
"Oh you mean Mr.Im a Sexy Marine?" She says laughing and I nearly choke on my toothbrush.
"No you mean Mr. Egosticical or Cocky." I say finishing brushing my teeth.
"Honey that goes with the territory of being a Marine. They have egos bigger than their head and sometimes that head is up their ass. But that ego is well deserved." She says a crooked smile playing on her pale features her southern accent deeply embedded in her words.
"Hey can I quote you on that sometime?"I say laughing.
"Sure if you can explain to me why you were mumbling to yourself asking yourself if he liked you?" She says this time the smirk hit her hazel eyes the mechieviousness brewing inside.
"Because Mr. Egosticall asked me out to lunch and drinks." I say groaning as I close the bathroom door and changing out of my workout clothes into a skirt and top. Still casual but nice at the same time.
"And you said yes?" She asks smiling with a knowing smile.
"Yea but only because I got nine text messages from Eric. Today and I don't want to go home because I know he will be waiting outside my house and I want to forget him and what better way to forget one asshole than to hang out with another?" I ask though the wall and I can almost see her face smiling at me.
"Oh sure that and I think, Miss. Ace that you might be developing some feelings maybe?" She says. I shake my head violently throwing the door open.
"There is no way I will get myself into another relationship with a man who is egotistical and arrogant." I say almost laughing at my horrible past relationships.
"Maybe that's only what you think of him now, what if that isn't who he is?" She says her metaphorical shit starting to come out.
"Soph he's a Marine they all are egotistical and arrogant." I say rolling my eyes in her direction.
"They are also loyal and kind and caring beyond your comprehension all a Marine wants is to serve his country and have someone worth fighting for." She says and I stop what I'm doing and ponder that for a moment.
"......Maybe." I say changing my shoes to a pair of flats. I look at my hair in its usual ponytail and I get the urge to do something else with it so I takeout out and spray it down with the water bottle and I watch the red hair curl up instantly framing my face.
I look at Soph and notice the grin on her face. "You let your hair curl..... you must like him." she said her voice going an octave higher.
"I do not." I say grabbing my purse and walk out the door to see him coming down the hall prosthetic on and with one crutch. I give him a glare.
"You know your not supposed to be wearing that yet." I say crossing my arms only causing my large chest to be pushed up further.
"Im wearing it." He says and I role my eyes. 'I seem to be doing that a lot lately.' I think to myself and I look back into my room and Sophia is barley containing her laughter but she mouths to me 'Im not here.' I give her glare when he's not looking and we walk down the hall together towards the lobby.
"Alright I know we don't get along so tonight lets drink, have some fun, and maybe find a way to work with each other without killing each other." I say and look over at him and his features change from cold and calculated to happy? Humored? Some emotion along those lines.
"Alright deal only if I get to buy the first drink." he says stoping for a moment in the lobby and sticks out his hand. I eye him for a moment weighing options and looking into his blue eyes....... almost getting lost in them. I stick out my hand and shake it.
"Alright as long as its whiskey." I say and shake it before dropping it and walking towards the automatic doors at the front of my building. I hear him laugh honestly laugh behind me and catch-up to me when I stand in front of the awaiting cab.
"Get in". He says making me get in first and I do scooting all the way to the drivers side.
I look at the back the drivers head and say "To 3823 w Landon st." I say. "I thought we were going to a bar?" Troy whispers to me leaning in close and I nearly jump from the proximity.
"We are." I say smirking. When we pull up we are in-front of a workshop and I pay the taxi driver and we get out and he takes off.
"We are not at a bar." He says looking at me frustrated.
"No we are on a sidewalk". I say walking down an bit to an alley. I turn to find him following me and I walk into an antiques shop. I smile when I watch his frustration continue. I walk to the elderly woman at the front.
"What lovely weather it is." She says.
I smile and say "Yes but I always carry and umbrella in Seattle."
"Me too dear." She says and hands me a key. I grab Troys free hand and lead him down the hall towards a door that looks like a bathroom.
"Dr. Ace I don...." He starts to say.
"Melody, or ace is fine when we are out." I say with a smile and unlock the door and it opens to an elevator.
"I dont understand." He says stepping into the elevator with me.
"You will in moment." I say and push the down arrow. There is nothing but silence until the elevator door opens and the smell of liquor and the sound of music attacks our senses.
"Its its a..."
"Speakeasy." I whisper just loud enough for him to hear me.
"You've got to be kidding me. They still exist?" He says confusion, wonder, and astonishment marring his features.
"Yes and this town is full of them. This one is called 'The Patriot'." I say and turn towards him with a grin and grab his hand again my excitement getting the best of me.
