Laughing I said to him, " KRIS! OMG! You almost killed us, you can't just use fire for that! This place will explode!! "
" Isn't that a good thing? We don't have to go school ! " Kris replied giggling.
" No , but I still do wanna live ! "
" Ahh, yeap , almost forgot about that. " He smiled. Then continued, " Hmm.. about lunch ? "
" Well, I thought someone had things to do ? " I smirked.
" Hmm.. I kinda .. hmm postponed them .. for you .. " , he said shyly .
" Alright then.. 2.30 then ? " I asked, practically making a statement.
" Hmm, your address please? So I could - "
" I'll text you . " Am I actually flirting?
" Oh , okay " Kris smiled slightly.
After school, I waited for Kris to pick me up at home. I put on a sports wear, with shoes fit for basketball. Thought of playing basketball today, and see for myself if the rumours were true about Kris's skills on the court.
" Hey, i'll be 5 minutes late. I'm sorry, got stuffs to do. " Kris texted me with a sad emoji.
" I'll wait, btw wear proper shoes. We're going to the court. " I replied.Once he reached my place, I was already waiting at my doorstep.
I opened the car door , " What kind of things you had to do ? "
" Nothing much, hmm just errands. "
Something seems fishy but I decide to not question any further.
Once we reached the court, there were few boys already playing.
" Alex! Come over here! " I shouted to the boy in red .
" Who's this? " he asked, walking towards us and glancing at Kris.
" Kris, this is Alex. Alex , this is Kris "
" What happened to Jackson? I knew it he wasn't good enough for you! " Alex laughed.
" Ehem. We're still together and this is my new friend , Kris. He's new. "
" Kris eh? Seems familliar.. Have I seen you before? "
This is where things got weird. Once Kris really looked at Alex, he seemed scared.
" Um nope. No, I think you thought I was someone else. "
" That's weird. I know a guy named Kris , a kid actually, when I was younger. Used to be close to me, that kid was like a twin to Jackson.. I mean, they're really close. " Alex said, trying to remember his past.
" You mean in the orphanage? Where you guys grew up ? " I asked him.
" Yeaa! But I'm not sure what happened to that kid. I wasn't close to him like Jackson was. Didn't you know ? " He asked me.
" No actually. I knew he grew up at the orphanage but he - " i was looking around when i wanted to continue.. but I realised Kris wasn't with us, he was already shooting hoops.
Guess he was bored with the story?
" You think it was this Kris? " I asked Alex.
" Nope. Maybe? I don't know. I'm really confused. Maybe the kid's name is Kevin.. Probably. Don't think about it too much, It's none of our business anyways " He winked and went off to join Kris.
I stood there. Puzzled.
.....
" You're really good , Kris. " I complimented him . It was true. He was a good basketball player and I admit, I am impressed.
" Thanks, you're not so bad yourself. " He smiled , keeping his eyes on the road.
" I had a good time.. with you. At least, it reduces my stress, with school, homework, - "
" Jackson. " Kris said, continuing my sentence.
" Hm.. Yea. "
I looked at him and he seemed very pissed.
" Did I say something wrong? " I asked.
" Why do you like him ? What's so special about him? "
" Kris? What are you talking about? "
" You don't even know who you're with , don't you? You can get any guy. Any guy ! But why him? "
" Kris - "
" How long ? "
" 3 months. " I said, getting worried.
" It wouldn't last. "
" Yes, it would. "
" You don't even know that guy!! "
" THEN TELL ME WHAT I DON'T KNOW! " I shouted.
He kept quiet. The whole journey back home was in silence.
Once we reached home, I got out and before I could slam the door ,
" I'll call you. " Kris said.
" Don't even bother. " I slammed the door.
...
Walking to my room, I can't help but think about Kris. The fact that he seemed such a loner at school but, with me, he's this whole new person.
Am I missing something?
