Alexa's P.O.V
I slam my locker shut with so much force that I was sure it will break. Well it did not.
I grumble under my breath as I patiently wait for Diana and Mae. Oh, but Mae wasn't talking to me. Sh*t! I really needed to apologise to her for that day.
I lean against my locker as my mind wanders to last night. I narrow my eyes in anger and was sure that my nostrils were flaring. Ugh! I hated that jerk.
"Hey gurrl" Di drawls stupidly before wrapping an arm around my shoulder and I turn to give her a high five. Why? Just because.
"Hey yourself. I have been waiting for you people for ages you know" I cross my arms across my chest while I shoot them a mock glare. Di rolls her eyes with a small amused smile on her face.
"Alright grumpy. I'll buy you your favourite milkshake as an apology" She laughs when she watches my eyes visibly brighten at the prospect of having two oreo milkshake. One that I am going to buy for myself and the other one that Di is going to buy.
"Hallelujah!" I squeal in delight as I raise my hands to the ceiling which I assumed as the sky in which the God was obviously beaming down at me. Uh..okay Imagination, you need to stop now!
Even Mae cracks a smile at that. I take a deep breath and turn towards Mae who was awkwardly standing behind Di refusing to meet my eyes.
"Hey Mae...I am sorry about yesterday. I shouldn't have done that. I should have considered your feelings and..sh*t! I suck at apologies, don't I?" My wide eyes meet Diana's and she mouths what-the-f**k-is-wrong-with-you!? Yeah, about that I have no idea.
Mae finally raises her head and eventually meets my eyes with a sheepish stare.
"It's not really your fault, you know..." she mumbles so quietly that if I wasn't standing close I would have most definitely missed it. My brows crease but I motion for her to go ahead with an encouraging nod.
Suddenly Mae's eyes fill with unshed tears as she hugs her bag to her chest and bits her lip which was trembling.
My eyes widen fearfully and I quickly engulf Mae in a hug. Sh*t! I didn't knew it went that far. I mean I knew something must have triggered that mood she had yesterday. But that something had to be big for her to react like this. I mean Mae is a strong girl after all.
I pat her back as I feel her whole being tremble as she clutches onto me to steady herself. Diana had a sad frown on her face while she ran her hands up and down Mae's hair soothingly.
"...M-My parents are..g-going to d-divorse" Mae rasps out as fresh hot tears roll down her red cheeks
"I just came to know that day a-and I was really s-sad but...I thought I could handle it, you know? I t-thought that I won't let this get to me. I mean I obviously knew this was coming but when it did happen..I-I don't know it just struck me so suddenly and I didn't know what to do.." she shook her head as she broke out of my embrace.
