The entire conversation that had transpired between the two boys had been in their language so I had not understood any of it. But when Samyal had come back into the room, he was slightly pale.
“I am sorry about that,” he said with a tight smile.
“What was that all about? And it’s fine. Not your fault.”
“Gaebryil still thinks that he has total control of everyone in this house. He told me I am not allowed to have you over any longer. Yeah, right. I will have you over whenever I wish it.”
“You sure you wanna push him like that?”
“Why not?” he said with a wicked grin.
He was driving me home now, and I was ready. We had walked around the house and explored the trees and such. We had played chess twice, and I had beaten him both times. We had watched a horror movie, and we had eaten a “lunch/snack”. It was another lunch for him and a light snack for me.
When we got to my house, he was looking at the steering wheel and obviously had something on his mind.
“What is it?” I asked.
He sighed. “Gaebryil is going to be seriously hard core on you now. Just wanted to warn you before tomorrow.” He looked at me seriously for a minute. “Just watch your back, ok?”
“You know I will,” I said with a smile.
I got out of the car then and he waved before driving off.
All the lights in the house were off, which was very weird. My mother usually kept them on until I got home. As I got closer to the door, the hair on the back of my neck and my arms starting prickling and I got that chill down my back warning me of danger. I began to back up slowly, but then realized my mom might be in the house. With that thought I ran to the door, threw it open so hard it hit the wall with a loud thud, and walked inside.
I closed the door behind me and kept walking towards the stairs. A bright red light caught my attention and made me turn my head. Two beams of red light were pointed at me. No, two red were looking at me. I turned around and found the light switch and turned it on. When I turned back around, no one was there.
The rest of the night was not good. I could not fall asleep because of the fear of the red eyes coming back. I left my lamp on all night.
When I got to school the next morning I went hunting for Samyal. I found him with Arryk and Darryk.
“Sorry, boys,” I said tightly. “But I need to steal him for a minute.”
“Hey, are you alright?” Darryk asked in a concerned tone.
“What happened?” Samyal asked sternly.
“Can Gaebryil’s eyes turn red?”
They all looked at each other for a moment. “No,” they all said together.
“Then who the hell was in my house last night?”
“Someone was in your house last night?”
“Yes, someone with red eyes.”
“What did they look like?”
“They shined like a car’s brights.”
“Wait here for a minute. We need help.”
Samyal ran over to a cloaked figure in the hall, who then pointed down the hall somewhere. Samyal ran down that direction and then came running back.
“Gaebryil is the only one of us who can tell who could have done this because this was a purebred from some tribe and he’s the only purebred we have. He will talk to you in Spanish.”
“Ok.” As long as this was taken care of, I really did not care who did it.
When the bell rang for Spanish class me and the twins and Samyal all walked together. When I got there, Gaebryil was not there. I looked at Samyal, but he just shrugged.
The bell rang to start class then and still he was not there. As the teacher walked in, I was losing hope. I put my head in my hands. Right then everyone gasped. I looked up to find Gaebryil with just his sweats on. He was looking at me very intently. He then turned to look at the teacher. “She comes with me.” She just nodded. He then looked back at me. “Let’s go. Now.”
I followed him into the hall. But he was not stopping there like I thought he would. Instead he went outside into the parking lot and to a black convertible Jaguar. He turned to me and said, “Get in.”
I decided to get in, knowing that pissing him off could be a fatal mistake.
Once I was in, I figured we were gonna talk her so no one could hear us, but instead he stuck the key in the ignition and started the car…and started driving.
“Dude!” I almost yelled. “You’re blind! We could crash! We could-”.
“Shut the fuck up!” he yelled, interrupting me. “I know I am blind. But I still drive. So shut up and we wont get in a crash.”
After that, I kept my mouth shut, and just like he said, we did not crash.
