I sat on the couch with my froggy pajamas & a bowl full of popcorn, waiting for Valentina. Next to me, I had a stack of movies to choose from we could watch all night. The doorbell rang & I quickly got up, rushing towards the door. Swinging the door open, Val walked in, pillow in her left hand, a bag containing of clothes in her right.
"Hey!", Valentina cheered as she set her clothes by the couch. "So what movie we watching?"
I shrugged & pointed to the stack of DVDs. "I wanted us to choose one together".
Val nodded & started thumbing through the DVDs. After a good 3 minutes, Valentina finally picked 'Freaky Friday'. Slamming it into the DVD player, Val plopped on the couch, rested up with the pillow she brought with her. I laid on the other couch, grabbing the bowl of popcorn in the process.
"I haven't seen this movie in so long!"
Valentina chuckled. "Neither have I. This used to be my favorite movie".
Memories of when I used to watch this movie with Kevin flooded my mind, but I quickly washed them away. I really had to get over Kevin & stop reminiscing. He was long gone, no way of coming back. I mean yeah, sure, I was still madly in love with him, but I couldn't help it. Kevin meant the world to me, & when he was killed right before my eyes, it triggered a nerve I still can't shake off to this day.
"Wynter!", a Mexican accent filled my ear along with the snap of a finger. I turned my head to see Valentina looking at me weird. "You okay chica?"
"N-no...I was thinking of K-kevin...."
When me & Valentina got really close, I told her everything. She knew absolutely every single detail about my past.
"Oh honey, come here". Val held her arms wide open & I gladly made my way inside them. I felt so safe & protected inside my best friend's arms, instantly making me feel much better. "It'll be okay. You'll find new love. Love blooms everywhere baby".
I scoffed. "I doubt that. I will never get over Kevin. Ever."

Me & Valentina laughed at the movie. I had completely forgot about.....him & loosened up. The movie ended & Val quickly jumped up.
"Video game time, come on, hook the Xbox back up".
Just like me, Valentina was obsessed with video games. It was one of our main similarities that made us so close. Of course, there were some differences that made us close also. I got up & hooked up the game system, putting in Grand Theft Auto.
I walked into the kitchen as the sounds of gunshots from the game filled up the room.
"Oh hell naw, popo on my ass!". Val really gets into that GTA when she plays.
My phone began ranging & I looked at the caller I.D. It was my sister Paulina.
"Hello?", I answered, eating the leftover popcorn.
"Wyn? Yeah, I'm coming home in the morning, I'm going out tonight then sleeping at a friend's house".
I smirked. "It's cool, Valentina's here so I won't be lonely".
"Alright. See you tomorrow!". Beep.
"Well Val, Paulina's going out & sleeping with a friend, so it's just you & me home tonight".
"Let's do each other hair or something! I'm going to go turn the flat iron on", Valentina said, excitedly running upstairs.
I laughed & shaking my head, following her trail.
