THE MOMENT

She looked at Simon as they sat together on the cliff top, his eyes wondering over the smooth sea and the sky full of delicate stars. She wanted nothing more than to be stuck in that moment for the rest of her life, and he felt exactly the same. He just wanted to permanently pause- but he knew, in reality that was impossible and eventually they would have to leave the cliff top and head for home.

"Do you wanna start packing up?" Simon asks, catching her gaze.

"If we have to," She sighs and Simon chuckles softly.

"My mom and dad said they would be out tonight, we can go back to mine and watch a movie or something?" Simon offers and Alex nods, shrugging.

"Sure," She mutters, smiling weakly.

They got up and grabbed their snacks and the bottles of Smirnoff Ice's that they'd stolen out of Simon's parents collection of alcohol. They chased each other down the hill and dumped their rubbish into a bin before walking side by side back to Simon's house. Once inside Simon double checked no one was home before leading Alex upstairs.

Alex smiled as she flopped out onto Simon's bed, he smiled at her when he flicked on his TV and put on a dvd, he chose some kind of horror movie that Alex wasn't overly interested in.

Simon sat beside her and she watched him as he got engrossed in the film, his eyes glistening as his lips moved, he was lip reading the words spoken by the actors.

"Simon-"

"Shhh, this is the best part," He says and Alex rolls her eyes.

"No, Simon, I need to tell you something, just pause," Alex says and Simon presses the pause button, turning to look at her with an annoyed look on his face.

"I've been thinking about me, and you...And us.."

"Okay?" Simon asks, the confusion written all over his face.

"I'm wondering, do you reckon we could be...More than friends? You know, one day?" Alex asks and Simon shrugs.

"Who knows?" He breathes and Alex gulps.

"Why? Do you want us to be more or something?" Simon asks and Alex blinks and looks away.

Simon's hand moves to her chin and he tilts her head to look at him. He looks into her eyes before pressing his lips against her.

"Simon..."

"Don't," He says and Alex looks into his eyes.

"I'm in love you, I always have been," Alex whispers and Simon looks away and back before pressing his lips harshly against hers.

Alex looked at Simon with widened eyes.

"You...You...You remembered me saying those words to you?" Alex asks, her eyes filled with water.

"I've always remembered. And I've always regretted the fact I never said those words back that night," Simon says and Alex looks down at the floor, she was shaking.

"You cold?" Simon asks and Alex shakes her head gently.

"No, I'm just...In some sort of shock...I...I never thought you'd remember something like that...Something so petty and stupid," Alex says and Simon takes her hand, locking his fingers with hers.

"I'm in love with you, I swear to you, I am," Simon says and Alex smiles softly, nodding at him.

"You already know I love you," Alex says and Simon leans towards her, in the middle of the dark street, and he presses his lips against hers. She smiles, putting her arms round his neck and pulling him closer.

"Nathan isn't home...we could take this there," Simon whispers and Alex chuckles and nods.

"At least you're not cheating on a fiancé this time," Alex says, moving away and beginning to walk.

They head for Alex's house, they moved quickly, they wanted to show their love for each other, properly- after they'd both admitted to each other how much they meant to one another.

She looked up at the ceiling, her eyelids flickering in the low light of the morning. She looked at her bedside alarm clock and read 6:39am. She had a tendency to wake up earlier than was necessary. It was Saturday today and the last day Simon was in town. Alex slowly got up, careful not to disturb the sleeping body beside her. She heads for the shower, and when shes finished up in there she brushes her teeth and applies some light makeup to mask the bruises on her neck, the marks of her lover. She ties her hair up in its usual messy bun, the wispy piece of hair falling down her face.

"Morning," She hears when she enters her bedroom. His voice was raspy and tired, and his eyes were only half open as he looked at Alex.

"Morning," She says and she changes into some jeans and a plaid shirt, before pulling on her Vans.

"Are you awake this early for a reason? It is Saturday?" Simon yawns, sitting up, his back resting against the wooden headboard.

"No, I just...I always seem to wake up unnecessarily early, no matter what day it is," Alex says and Simon nods.

"Are you going to pick up Nathan in a bit?" Simon asks.

"Yeah, at about 9:30," Alex says and Simon smiles at her.

He was tired and could hardly keep his eyes open as he looked at her.

"You go back to sleep," Alex instructs and Simon breathes out and slides back under the sheets.

"Yes, ma'am," He chuckles and Alex smiles before heading out of the bedroom.

She grabs her keys and heads downstairs. She had a few bit and bobs to get at the local shops so she pulled on her coat and headed out. She travelled along the quiet roads, she passed the occasional jogger or dog walker as she walked towards the bakery. She knew Jack liked to open the shop early on Saturday because it meant he could close earlier and start his Saturday night early. Alex picks up some fresh bread and a few pastries for herself and Simon before going to the butchers and picking up her lamb shanks for tomorrows dinner. She also got herself some chicken breasts and eggs. Once she'd gotten a few more items from the supermarket at the end of the street she headed home and found herself making breakfast.

"Smells good," She hears, making her jump.

"Jesus, don't do that," Alex says and Simon chuckles.

"I'm not Jesus, but alright," Simon says and Alex rolls her eyes towards him.

"I hate you," Alex says and Simon walks towards her and wraps his ams round her waist.

"I love you too,"
