"Maybe I can get on top of your shoulders?" I joked.

"Kira. Get back inside the car please," Kira's mom said.

"Why do I just have to get inside the car?" Kira whispered to me.

"Well," I began while sliding down the back of the car. "They aren't my parents so they can't really tell me what to do. Though if they did, I would listen cause they let me stay with you in New York."

I held my hand out and helped Kira down, cause I'm a good friend. But I'm also a mean friend so when she reached for it, I swung it back down and almost made her fall off the car.

I thought it was hilarious but she did not seem impressed.

Kira rolled her eyes and looked down at the line of cars. I stood beside her and crossed my arms over my chest. The wind was blowing because of the storm so it was a little chilly.

This guy, who looked about our age, turned around and held up his phone. "I'm not getting anything either."

I simply gave him one of those 'white people' smiles. Ya know, that smile when you make an awkward eye contact with someone while walking in a store or down the street and you don't want to be rude so you like, flatten your lips and it's kind of a smile.

Kira got back in the car first and then I slid in right after her.

"We haven't moved in 15 minutes," she complained. "We're going to be late."

"What is this thing you're going to anyway?" Noshiko asked us.

"It's called Senior Scribe and we're kinda not aloud to tell you about it," I replied.

Her mom turned to her dad who simply laughed and shrugged his shoulders, "Don't look at me. I don't know anything either. Sounds like they're supposed to write something or..."

"It sounds like vandalism," Noshiko argued.

"It's not vandalism," Kira said, her voice getting higher cause she was lying. Hopefully her parents didn't notice. "At least, I don't think it is."

We sat in silence for a second before Kira sighed and reached for the car handle.

"That's it. I'm going," she said.

"Yeah, me too," I grabbed my phone and stuck it in my raincoat pocket.

"You're going to walk?" Her dad asked.

"Yep," we both said at the same time. And as if on instinct, thunder rumbled in the air and rain started pouring outside.

Kira closed the door and slid back in the seat saying, "In the few minutes."

"Have you talked to Scott?" I asked her.

"We talked once," she replied. "Stiles?"

"We talked yesterday but he doesn't think I'm coming home till after school starts. I'm gonna surprise him," I began to feel really excited about seeing him again, but also anxious. I don't know why.

"I talked to Malia before we boarded, she still hasn't found out if she'll be a senior with us. I hope she makes it. She's been working so hard for this."

"You know there's a legend for a storm like this," Mr. Yukimura began.

"Dad," Kira moaned. "Please don't turn a three-hour traffic jam into an educational experience."
