I decide to go to the hotel restaurant and have a drink before Mike and James join me there for dinner. Sipping my orange juice, I think about how Mike, my bud of a few years, behaved towards James. I really didn't like the look in his eyes nor the tone of his voice. Actually, I feel I should have a heart-to-heart with Mike and tell him to behave himself around James.
My phone rings, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Hello?" I answer, face-palming myself instantly as it's probably a Polish speaker.
"Happy Birthday, Nessie! Uncle Jeff speaking."
"Thank you, Uncle Jeff," I say, still taken aback.
"I got your number from your parents as you're not home now," he explains cheerfully. "I talked to them and they said yes to my idea, but it's up to you to decide."
What the heck is his idea about? I'm curious...
"Nessie, we'd love it if you came to visit us next summer," he tells me. "I know, you'll have to get a visa and stuff, but don't you think it's worth finally meeting your aunt, your two closest cousins?"
"I'd love to finally meet all four of you," I say, smiling. "Yes, I'll gladly come next summer!"
"I'm so happy to hear that!"
"I'm sorry, Uncle Jeff, gotta go," I say, seeing the guys coming.
"Alright Nessie, happy birthday once again," he says before he hangs up.
Am I hallucinating or are the guys really laughing?
"Hey Nessie, you've a wonderful bud," Mike says while pointing to James.
"Same here, bro" James smiles from ear to ear.
"I'm happy you got along well," I tell them.
I like today's surprises so far. What happens next?
