The room stopped moving and the Doctor opened the doors.
"Oh my god!" There we were, watching the earth and stars. Real space, things I only saw in books and telescopes. My biggest dream had come true.
"There's more, more than you've read about and it's always changing. What do you think?" He smiled at me. I was a head or so shorter than him, almost up to his shoulder. He was tall, skinny, and reminded me of my 5th grade teacher,
"It's amazing. I've never experienced anything like this. The last time I was ever this happy was when Mr. Smith, my 5th grade teacher, took some of the class-" He cut me of there, finishing my statement, saying things even my mom didn't know.
"To a planetarium at which you saw stars, constellations, things that reminded you of your father when he would take you into a clearing in in the woods behind your house and you would have midnight picnics. That was before he died from being exterminated by Daleks." He looked at her, sadness in his eyes.
"How did you-" I stopped. He was there. He was Mr. Smith, he was watching us in the woods. He knew who I was before he saved me. He was the Doctor, a 900 something year old time lord who travelled time and space in a big blue police box called the TARDIS and he was going to take care of me.
"Now you remember?" He smiled slightly. I nodded. How could I even have forgotten?
"So now what do you want to do?"
"Something.... amazing." I grinned and shut the door.
"Something amazing coming right up!"He smiled but before he could reach the controls both of us fell, the TARDIS pitching suddenly.
"Doctor! What's happening?!" I gripped the railing, my eyes shut tight. The TARDIS pitched again. "We have to go! Now!" He agreed and pulled a lever. The room steadied after a bit. "Where are we now?" I moved to the door, opening it.
"We're... back. But it looked so different."
"10 years later, by the looks of it." He watched out of the door, the same way he had been all of my life.
Before he could stop me, I ran outside and straight to my house.
"Mom!" I pounded on the door. I wasn't sure if she was okay. I had to make sure. "Mom! Open the door!"
"Abbey..." I felt the Doctor's hand on my shoulder and all the dread carried with it. I couldn't help it. I broke down, crying. My mother was dead. This house wasn't mine anymore. Just and old memory. I just had to see the house -my home- one more time. The Doctor unlocked the door.
The house was empty. Dust had settled on the floor. I walked and each step I took caused the dust to rise. I ran my hand along the railing to the staircase. There were fingerprints in the thick dust coating.
"Doctor... There weren't any footprints. Why are there fingerprints?"
"Not sure yet. Let's go look." He walked with me to the upper floor. He grabbed the back of my shirt before I could take another step. At the end of the room was a stone statue."Doctor, what do we do?"
"Run." He grabbed my hand and pulled me toward the staircase but we were blocked.
"Any way out?" He looked at the angel in front of him.
I looked around quickly. "A tree seems to have collided with the house in the angel room but we can't get in."
"Why not?"
"Angels." I stood perfectly still. If I moved up, I could touch it with my nose. I will admit: I was scared.
He grabbed my hand and pulled me between both angels to what used to be the guest room. He blocked the door as I opened the window.
"Clear. Might be a hard climb though."I slipped out and onto the window ledge.
I looked down to make sure I was going the right way. I could see the gutters and pipes weren't too far away from me, I swung over and continued my descent.
As I ran for the TARDIS, I looked back to see the Doctor catching up. He was fast. But the angels were faster. I turned to reach for the TARDIS door and came face to face with 3 angels.
"Don't blink." The Doctor was right next to me, guiding me along to the doors. It was a slow process but I finally felt the painted wood on my back. I slipped in and nearly collapsed against my fellow adventurer.
"You could have killed us!" I turned around, my fists clenched. "What happened to my mother?!"
"The angels got her."
"You have a time machine! Save her!"
"I can't. I've explained the rules to you several times in class, Abagail."
"It's just Abbey." I turned and stormed off. I would find a room to stay in away from him. If I don't get lost.
