I woke up with the worst back ache ever

I woke up with the worst back ache ever. This hospital bed was so uncomfortable it's unrealistic. I feel like I was literally laying on a log. Never thought I'd know how that felt but I know now and it's not pleasant.

I turn around when I feel a cold hand on my arm.

"Is today tomorrow yet?" She asks me without opening her eyes.

"Yes ma'am."

"Finally I can leave this place."

Today is the day she gets out of this hell hole. She's been around all of these people that have to poke things in her every 5 minutes. I know it hurts and I don't like seeing her hurting so it's about time she gets out of here.

"So should I go get your stuff now or do you just wanna wait until we get out of here?"

"We can wait. I don't want you to leave yet."

I turned around so that she couldn't witness the embarrassing flush of light red that covered my face.

"Don't hide it from me. This is the first time seeing that happen and it's quite adorable. And I like seeing adorable things."

I blushed again and I fought the urge to not look down right after she just told me not to.

"So where are we gonna go first, my place or yours?"

"Let's go to yours so we can get you some clothes to bring to mine."

"Sounds like a plan. I really wanna see my mom though."

"I know. Before we leave I'll ask a nurse about it."

"Okay thanks."

"No need to thank me."

"Yeah there is. Why do you keep doing that?"

"Doing what?"

"Acting as if what you're doing isn't the greatest thing anyone has ever done for me."

"Well the people I have encountered don't really say thank you. And if they do, it's not sincere. So I've learned to accept the fact that not everybody is grateful."

"Well I am. And you need to know that. Seriously."

I just smiled back. I couldn't tell her that I don't believe her. It wouldn't make sense. She said it so many times already I kind of have no choice but to believe her. But this little voice in the back of my head is telling me not to. And it's a very tempting request.

"Let me call these nurses and ask them to get me out of here."

"Sure thing."

I feel like shit

I feel like shit. You can just tell that Kehlani had been taken advantage of by lots of people. It's not fair to her because she has such a pure soul. She doesn't do things for other people because she was asked to do it. She does it out of the kindness of her heart. I just feel like I'm taking advantage of her too. I know I'm not but it feels that way.

"You know you're worth more than a thank you right?"

"What do you mean?"

"A thank you doesn't confirm the gracious acts that you decide to perform for people."

"I never said that."

"You didn't have to. I can tell that it's how you feel though. You might think of these wonderful gestures as things that everyone does but in all honesty, nobody saves a stranger from a broken home."

"You've said thank you many times and you didn't have to."

"But I wanted to because often times, these kind acts go unnoticed."

"Well I mean, thank you for your appreciation for me."

"You're very welcome. Now if someone tells you thank you one day, just say you're welcome."

"You got it."

"I think after all of this I should tell you my name

"I think after all of this I should tell you my name."

I still haven't told her my name. Kind of weird considering the fact that we spent a lot of time together.

"Oh shit. You never told me your name. That's weird."

"Yeah it is."

"Well then what's your name?"

"Don't laugh, please."

"I don't think it would be that bad."

"Alright well my name is Kehlani."

"It's a beautiful name. Why would I laugh?"

"Well other people laugh. They think it'll be some hard ass name because of my tattoos and stuff. But my name is soft and delicate. Doesn't match my demeanor at all."

"I think it does. You're soft and delicate yet very strong. The name suits you perfectly. Do you know what it means?"

"No my mother never told me all that."

"Man that's sad. It's a nice name."

"Thanks."

It's the first time that somebody hasn't laughed at my name. It's a weird feeling but I like it.

"So we're gonna go ahead and let you go now. I washed your clothes from the other night for you. I hope you don't mind the lavender smell." A nurse said as she walked in.

"No not all. Thank you so much."

"You're very welcome my dear. I'll just take this needle out and you'll be set to go."

She takes the needles out and cleans her arm with a cotton swab and alcohol. Then she walks towards the door.

"Thanks again for your help. If we're ever back here I'll request you."

"I sure hope you're not back in here. But if you are I'm always on call."

With that we exchanged smiles and she left us by ourselves once again.

"What a nice woman."

"Yeah she is. The needle was hurting me though. I'm glad she took it out."

"Yeah I can imagine. It must've really sucked ass sitting in that hospital bed the whole time."

"Yeah it did."

She tried getting up by herself but she's been laying down for so long her legs were weak. I went to help her before she fell and she eventually got it by herself.

"Go put these clothes on so we can go."

Earlier I texted my brother telling him that we're almost ready and that he can give us a ride back home. He's waiting outside for us right now.

She went in the bathroom, changed and came back out ready to go. She went to go see her mom. It was a sad sight but she stayed strong the whole time. After that we went to go check out of the hospital. Soon enough we went to the car and made our way back home.
