His words echo in my head.

See you at midnight.

No Peeta, I won't.

It came down and grabbed me.

Whisked me away.

To the Capital.

And here I stay. I think it's been a week, but time has lost its importance. Snow came in right after I got here. Hello Ms. Everdeen. You shouldn't have blown up that force field.

I know he'll get his revenge.

I think I've memorized this room, this place of confinement. The hospital bed I've been strapped to had caused my hands and feet to go temporarily numb. I guess not moving will do that to you. The walls shine bright white, blank and bare. The only other furniture is a small mahogany table in a corner. The irony. A white rose rests in a vase on top of it, stinking up the room. It's just another reminder of where I am.

I stopped struggling long ago. It's futile. I'll never escape. It dawns on me how hungry I am. Even in District 12 I was never this hungry. They haven't fed me at all. Just one slice of bread would be like heaven. Bread. Peeta. I miss him so much. What I wouldn't give to see him. No, If he were here, he would be strapped next to me. I can't have that. I have to protect him, I did protect him. He isn't here, I succeeded. For the first time since I got here, I truly relax. Thank you Haymitch

The door clicks open and Snow walks in. He looks the same as always, but this time I don't have much energy or means to fight him. "Hello my dear." I don't answer, I don't even acknowledge him. He doesn't deserve my respect. I just stare off to the side. He comes over and grabs my head so I'll face him. "You'll have to cooperate with me if you want your stay to be comfortable."

"Are you going to kill me?" I croak, my voice horse. "It's the worst thing you can do."

"My dear Miss Everdeen, I thought we agreed not to lie to each other." He turns around and leaves, but not before leaving me something to go with the flower. A plate clinks as he places it next to the vase. He knows I can't reach it, but he leaves it anyway.

It's bread.
