As I attempted to get back into imy normal life and routine, I couldn't seem to get Grace out of my head. That smile, that laugh. Everything about her just screamed kindness and poise. She was beautiful. It was impossible to look at her and not fall instantly in love. With those captivating brown eyes and killer smile. I just couldn't get her out of my head. Everything I did, everything I saw reminded me of Grace in some way.

I eventually couldn't take it anymore, so I decided I would go out to tge woods and start trying to keep my promise to Chester and avenge my friend's untimely death. I thought it would be best to start in the north woods closest to the palace since it was there that I last saw him.

As I explored the woods, taking a deep breath of the sweet smell of the pines. The intoxicating scent reminded me of a time when things weren't so complicated and I could be compleatly myself, letting my imagination run wild.
All of that innocence was gone now. It had been gone for a long time and there was no way to get it back. So, I settled for these little moments.

My thoughts were quickly inturrupted by the sound of hooves. I looked up and saw an all too familier face. It was Grace.

Shit
I mumbled to myself as I hid behind a tree.
The faint sound of rustling in the brush brought her horse to a stop.

"What is it, girl?"
She asked the horse. It neighed in response.
My breath hitched as I looked over and saw what was in the bushes.
The matted fur and souless eyes. I'd know them anywhere.
A Guardian. These creatures guarded the barrier between our world and the magical one. This one on the other hand seemed to have gone dark. This was not good. I could tell by the look in it's eyes that it was out for blood. Royal blood. I needed to stop it before it hurt her.

I took one step forward and broke a twig. The guardian's ear perked up at the sound. Instead of turning to face me, it did the opposite. It lunged at Grace.
Reacting as quickly as I could, I jumped in front of the beast to try and distract it. I pulled a dagger out of my boot and took a few jabs at the monster. It took one stab in the side and didn't react. I needed to get Grace out of here.

"Run!"
I yelled, but she didn't move. She only stood there. Her eyes were wide in shock. So I tried again.

"Get the hell out of here!"
She still wouldn't move. I took another swipe at the beast's eye, sending it stumbling and howling back in pain. I smirked then turned to see if her highness was still standing there. She was.

"Oh for gods sake"
I went to see why she wouldn't move. To see what had possesed her to put herself in that kind of danger.

"Grace!"
I yelled. There was no answer. I sighed. I had no idea how I was going to get her out of here if I couldn't get her attention.

"Grace!" I said once more. This time it broke through whatever shock was blocking her concentration.

Her brown eyes met mine and she smiled. My cheeks with a bright red blush at her attention. It was like we were in our own world. Like everything had fallen away. Like every danger were only nightmares. I felt myself, unconciously, lean in.
My lips were mere inches from hers when we were quickly inturrupted by an unimaginable pain in my back.
I shouted loudly in pain
Angrily, I took my dagger and with one quick swipe, I sliced the monster's throat. It let out a whine before collapsing to the floor with a loud thud.

I looked back at Grace, and the world began to blur. Her beautiful face was the last thing I remembered seeing before everything went black.
