Daphne dropped me off at the Louisiana airport. Unfortunately, I had to wait a couple hours for my flight to be ready to board. Typical. It wasn't fully boring though, since I had gotten some chips and dip, and my phone was still on 45%. I also saw a famous LSU football player. I don't know his name, but I know I've seen him on Twitter.
I'm finally aboard my flight. There is an edgy looking twenty year old beside me. She has bright purple highlights, and thick eyeliner. Her wrists are also covered in vibrant rubber wristbands, naming all sorts of bands— some I know, some I don't recognize. I can hear her screamo music blaring from her earbuds, and I'm tempted to ask if it was 'Asking Alexandria', but I refrain.
On the other side of me, is a talkative man named Nick. He's not the best Nick I know, but he's not the worst. Thing is, he won't shut up about the wife and kids he has to leave on these business trips. I just nod and smile until I untangle my earbuds and plug them in.
Music bursts through my ears, and I feel satisfied that I don't have to listen to Nick describe his life anymore.
"Kiss me under the lights of Sixth Street..."

It's halfway through the flight and my phone is on ten percent. I have to save some of my battery to call a cab and tell my family I am safe, so I safely place my phone in my purse. I sneak a peek to my left. Nick seems to be asleep, so the coast is clear. I lean my head back and sigh.
"My wife hates planes. I never really understood why though. I believe they are relatively safe. Well, considering it's a ton of metal, flying across the sky," his voice cuts through the silence.
I sigh again, but this time out of annoyance. I decide to pretend like I'm asleep. But he just doesn't stop speaking. At all.
"My son has to have popsicles to calm him down on boats. It's a weird little trick, but it works every time."
Someone shove a popsicle in my eye. I want to get off this plane, meet my loves, and sleep for ages.

By the time the plane lands, I have learned way too much about my neighboring passenger. Including the fact that 30 year old Nick has a 26 year old wife named Carol, a 5 year old named Drew, and a 2 year old named Gracie, who still loves Frozen. Nick works with pipe fitting, drives a silver Prius, and lives in Louisiana because it is where he grew up.
You bet your ass, he didn't get that much out of me. Daphne would kick my ass. Some stranger doesn't need to know every single detail about me-- that's absurd and totally unsafe.
Nick tells me bye, and finally leaves. I turn to my right and see the girl. She has her earbuds in, and her eyes closed. She appears to be asleep, so I go to wake her up. As I reach, her eyes open. Her hand turns her phone back on, and I realize she wasn't asleep at all.
"Next time, keep your earbuds in and fake it."
And with that, she slipped by me and disappeared.
I guess I have learned some valuable on this flight. Touché.
