I was having the most fun I've ever had in a long time.

My boots slapped against the pavement as I sped down the pavement. I maneuvered myself around people and other obstacles in my way.  That was kind of really awkward back there. My palms were getting sweaty and it felt like I was baking inside of an oven. I felt like I couldn't breathe and my heart was running a marathon.

I slowed my pace to a steady fast walk. I halted to a stop when I reached a small store that sold candy, different drinks, cheap magazines, random trinkets, and most importantly...GRANOLA BARS! I pushed the door open and entered the store. The door shut with a soft thud. I walked over to the front counter where candy and GRANOLA BARS were at. I started to pick Granola Bars up and drop them onto the counter in front of the cashier. After there was a nice pile of Granola Bars, I watched the Cashier scan all of the bars with his scan thingy. Modern technology was so strange!

"That will be $18.99"The man behind the cash register told me.

I nodded before digging through my messenger bag for my roll of mortal money. CRAP! Where was it??! I rummaged furiously through my bag, frantic. GAH! This was not good!

I looked up at the waiting cashier, he was looking at me expectantly.  I smiled nervously before looking down back to my bag. It was possible the mortal money fell out of my bag while I was running. I like, NEED these Granola bars. They were pretty cheap, and the only thing I could afford. Dad was seriously not helping. He only sends me mortal money like four times a year. And not a lot of mortal money at that.

"Miss, are you going to pay or not?"The impatient cashier looked at me, frowning."Where are your parents?  How old are you?"

"I'm fourteen, thank you very much."I glared daggers."And my parents, for your information-"

"-Are at work right now!"

"At work-"I began to say questioningly, glancing at the boy who walked next to me. It was Alex. Figures.

"Yes dear sister!"Alex said, looking at me, as if saying"Go along with it."

"Um, right.."I nodded, looking back to the cashier who was clearly unconvinced.

"You two are siblings."He said with eyebrows raised. He scrutinized us closely.

"Yeah, of course we are."Alex said, nodding his head.

"She looks Italian.."Mr.Scrutiny stated the obvious.

"That's because I AM Italian you idiot!"I rolled my eyes."Did it ever occur to you that I'm adopted?! I mean, helllloooooo, there is such thing."

"..Right."He cleared his throat. He obviously didn't like being showed up by a fourteen year old girl."You going to buy these or not?"He gestured to the pile of Granola bars still on the counter.

I was about to speak before Alex cut in,"You left your wallet in your room, Vi, again. I came here to bring it to you."He handed me a dark brown leather wallet.

"Um..thanks."I nodded, taking the wallet. I opened it up and glanced at Alex. Would Alex seriously let me use his money? Aware of the cashier watching me, I took out a twenty and slapped it onto the counter.

The cashier handed me my change and said stiffly,"Would you like a bag?"

"No..thank you."I replied before scooping the granola bars into my bag.

"Come..dear sister,"Alex said, holding on lightly to my wrist and steering me to the door and out of the store.

After we were well out of sight, I burst out laughing."Dear sister?!"

"Adopted?!"Alex chuckled softly.

"It was the only thing I could think of!"I protested.

"Nah, you're pretty good at improv."Alex grinned.

"You too."I smiled back.

Whoa whoa whoa. SMILING?! LAUGHING TOGETHER?! WHAT THE HADES WAS HAPPENING. NO..THIS WAS TOO WEIRD. Calm down..I must calm down...

"Whoa, you okay?"Alex said, looking at me closely.

I realized I was breathing in and out rapidly."Um...y-y-ye-yeah."DAMMIT! Why can't I speak without stammers and stutters?!!?!?!

"..Are you sure?"Alex narrows his eyes."You look kind of pale.."He says the last part reallllllly fast. So fast, I can barely understand him."Well, you already are pale which is kind of really strange since you're Italian and Italian people are supposed to be pale and all but you know you're not sickly pale kind of pale like moonlight and everything."He immediately turns a deep red color."But right now you look sick pale."

"......"I don't say anything for a few moments."Pale like moonlight?"I finally say after moments of silence.

"I...y-yeah..like..moon..light..yeah. I..er..um..well..yes..like moonlight..is that..weird that I..said that?"He was still very red.

"No, not at all."I bit my lip.

"So um..yeah. Anyways..what's wrong?"

"I'm just not..used to talking to people."It was my turn to blush.

"Why?"

"I..I dunno."

"Oh, okay. So uh want to tell me why you bought so many granola bars?"Alex asked me.

"To eat."I smiled a bit.

Alex laughed before saying,"Want to go to the park?"

"Yeah, sure."I nodded."Sounds...fun."

Alex sped up his pace to a run."Race you!"He called out behind his shoulder.

I laughed and sprinted forward like a cheetah. In a few mere seconds I was side by side with Alex. I smirked and sprang ahead.

I was having the most fun I've ever had in a long time.
