Josh's POV

After science class ended, I ran to the music classrooms. I've had this habit for years now, because its's better to stay at school for a few hours longer and practise the drums. I dislike walking home with the other kids because they crowd round me, jabbing me with insults.

I sat on the stool behind the drums, but didn't start creating any music. I couldn't anyway because Ariana had destroyed my drumsticks. As I wallowed in the memory, I heard a sharp rapping on the door and my heart sunk in my chest when I saw the door begin to open.

A small dainty foot appeared from behind the door, a foot belong to the one person I hate with all my heart, Ariana. Why did she have to be here, out of everyone! I'm trying to avoid eye contact with her, but it's hard; her eyes are so beautiful! JOSH WHAT ARE YOU THINKING! Ignore her, ignore her, ignore her.

"Ugh, why are you here?" Ariana scoffed. Oh great.

"I could ask you the same question." I sighed, wishing she could just turn away and leave me in peace.

"Well, as we are both here, lets discuss the assignment." Clicks, erupting from Ariana's heels, ricocheted around the room as she strode to the chair across from mine. She delicately sat down, crossing her slender legs and popped a piece of minty gum into her petite mouth.

I reached into my scrappy backpack and pulled out a folder, over flowing with sheets of paper and chucked it onto the table. A few stray sheets fluttered out. I watched as Ariana's deep chocolate eyes glared down at the paper. A quiet, but noticeable, giggle seeped out her lips.

"Nerd!" She shouted. Here we go.

"It's our work. I have an idea! If you leave me be, I will do the whole assignment myself." I spoke, trying to persuade her.

"Ok you have a deal, Drumstick. Sorry about earlier, if you want, I will put some cash towards a new pair of drumsticks." Ariana softly spoke. Did she really just say that?

"Uhh... I have another pair at home, but thank you." I was shocked at her sudden act of kindness.

"Ok! Bye." She swiftly spun around as more clicks echoed around the room as she slipped out the doorway.

I began to pack up my folders and loose bits of paper that were scattered over the table. I stopped. My mind was pondering about what Ariana said. Was she joking? Or was she mocking me? My slightly chapped lips formed into a faint smile.

Maybe she's not so bad after all.
