Chapter Six

When the heavy doors closed behind me,I instantly started to worry that Cassadee wouldn't see her keys that I placed next to her purse. I looked up, realizing where I was and noticed Alex watching my every move. "Welcome to the bandwagon," Zack muttered, making me grin.

Their manager was standing by the leather couch. The walls were covered with vivid posters of different music festivals.

"I'd give you a tour but it's so small in here it doesn't deserve it." He pointed down the 'corridor' vaguely, "The little door on the right is the bathroom, just after are the bunks but don't bother with them. The lounge and thy holy X-Box are at the end. Fridge is there. Magazines and shit are there. Make yourself at home." He finished, with a flourish of his arm which caught Zack's attention, causing him to laugh.

"I'm going to go play X-Box." Alex announces, walking away. Zack grinned maliciously.

"And I'm so gonna beat your ass at Halo!" He cried, springing after Alex. Rian shook his head, grinning, and put a pair of headphones on, already blaring their own music, sitting down on the sofa beside Jack and I. I moved to the section of the sofa that turned in a corner, next to the driver's door, and sat down. Jack sat close next to me.

"Don't worry," he said calmly, "we're staying a hotel tonight because you don't have a bunk, it wouldn't be fair to make you sleep in here, and because we've got a gig tonight."

I was about to protest about how I was perfectly fine with sleeping on the couch until I realized that they were using me as an excuse to stay somewhere else other than their small tour bus.

"Glad to be of assistance." I smiled, "Where are we going, anyway?" I asked, realizing that we were going somewhere, but I didn't know where 'somewhere' was.

"You've never been here before, have you?" Jack asked, reaching down under the sofa, to fumble in the compartment below. He got out a map and moved closer to me so that we were shoulder to shoulder then he took one of my hands and directed them to a location on the map.

"This," he said staring into my eyes intently," is where we are. And this is where we're going."

I was paying no attention what so ever to what he was pointing to on the map. I noticed that he wasn't looking at the map any longer either and our faces were only inches away.

"Are you sure you want to go there?" I asked quietly. I wasn't talking about the location on the map, but about his arm round my waist and where that was leading us.

"What do you think of it?" He replied, matching my volume.

"Hm. Well, I don't know how to get there without letting a few people know where we're going. Is that going to be okay?"

"Let's sneak around for now. I want to go there."

I couldn't keep the smile from forming on my face as we continued watching each other's features. Without thinking we both leaned in for a kiss, only with centimeters between us.

"JACK! RIAN!" Zack, again, ruined the moment. We both jumped in shock. I hadn't noticed Rian, quietly watching us. Damn.

Zack was hurtling through the bus and stopped short of Jack and me, no longer as close as before.

"Halo showdown, whoever wins gets off cleaning duties for a month." Zack grinned and I watched Jack get up to follow him.

"C'mon Des, let's go beat Alex or this'll be his third win in a row. And I hate cleaning up after that dirty child." Rian shook his head in mock disgust and, tentatively, I followed them through to the other lounge where Alex was trying to throw himself around the small space in a victory dance, next to a rather disgruntled Zack who had already lost. I curled up on the white fabric and watched four grown men kick ass like eight-year-olds. That is, until about three hours later when the tour manager, Matt, stepped in.

"Alright guys, we're almost there. Turn off the fucking video games and try to look professional. You," He pointed at me and grinned, "stick with me and you'll be fine, get out with them and you'll be eaten alive. Right, let's get your asses in gear!" He clapped once as Zack, grudgingly, turned the X-Box off. Alex threw a coat at Jack and pulled on a hat as Rian scrabbled for his drumsticks.

Jack grinned and gave me the thumbs up as the bus slowed to a stop. I could hear screaming. I watched from the lounge space as the guys assembled themselves in a line in front of the door, plastering smiles on their faces. The door itself slid open, and a rush of air swept through and the screaming crashed into my eardrums. I never knew screaming could get so high pitched or loud. And without a moment's hesitation, the guys stepped out so that the cries could cascade over them, the chants of 'ALL TIME LOW! ALL TIME LOW!'. The yelling, screaming, and crying I could hear was so intense that when the door slid shut again, my head was buzzing in silence. And I didn't even get to see the crowd that could produce so much noise. Matt turned to me and quoted Almost Famous.

"Look at this; an entire generation of Cinderellas, and no glass slipper."
