ANEEL
I kissed the top of Aisha's head as she continued mumbling into my chest. I sighed as I looked down at her.
"Honey, I can't understand you."
"Because you're not listening," she said with a frown. She looked up at me and I smiled at her before leaning down to kiss her but she pulled away quickly. "You're going to get ill."
"We have been married for sixteen years and you always gave me a kiss when you were ill and have I ever gotten ill from it?"
"Once."
"Doesn't count." She raised her head higher and I took that as a chance to kiss her. "I got my kiss anyways. Hey, you didn't mind kissing me when I came back home."
"That's because you were gone for two weeks on that trip." Her grip on me tightened and I sighed. "I missed you."
"I missed you more. And the kids. And the kisses. And the hugs. And the body."
"Stop it," she whined. I chuckled as I pulled her up further on my side. "I'm going to sleep okay?"
"Okay." I smiled at her before pulling the blanket over her shoulders. "You should have told me you were ill so I would have come back a little sooner to take care of you."
"I'm fine."
"You're never fine when you say you're fine. I'm your husband, you're not meant to lie to me."
"Shh, I can't reply, I'm sleeping." I chuckled as I leaned down to kiss the top of her head. "Hmm." I pressed my hand against her forehead and frowned. It seemed like her temperature was getting worse. "I love you. "
"I love you too, babe. Go to sleep. I'll let you relax and I'll make some food after the kid come back." I heard her mumble something else before she pulled the blanket over her head. I kissed the top of her head once again and then turned my attention to the T.V.
It was an hour later when I heard the front door open and the kids rush in. Aleena appeared at the door first and then came rushing to me for a hug.
"You're back!"
I chuckled as I raised my free arm to put on her back gently. "I missed you too, princess." Asif pushed past her and hugged me. "Hey, that wasn't very nice." I pulled away and smiled at him. "But it was very funny."
"Dad!" Aleena huffed from the floor as she looked at her brothers. Aayan made his way over and smiled at me. I opened up my arm but all he did was smile once again and leave the room. "I still don't get why he doesn't like hugs."
"Because he sees the way you hug people and get scared he won't be able to breath after," Asif said as he placed his phone on the table. Aleena gasped and looked at me, waiting for me to defend her as usual.
"I'm your older sister-"
"Affa, you're older than me by a year and a half. That's it. Don't even try it. You're going to be seventeen next year, grow up."
Aleena rolled her eyes and sat herself down on the sofa, picking up my legs. "You do realise there are other sofas right?"
"I know. But I like lying down on Amma. She's so comfy."
I gasped dramatically and raised a hand for a high five. "I know right?! Your mum is like the best human cushion ever."
"Shut up, Aneel," Aisha said with a groan. Without opening her eyes, she kissed my jaw. "Aayan didn't give you a hug did he?"
"What do you think?" She sighed and then looked at Aleena, smiling.
"Hey sweety. How was school?"
"Same old. Got my results back for my English mock. Got a B and I was a few marks off an A." Aisha grinned before holding out a hand to her.
"I knew you could do it, Aleena. I told you not to worry." Just then Asif walked back in and his eyes widened. "Young man, what was your test result? You know I told you what you had to get in order to go out with your friends." He gulped and I had to bite the smile away.
"I got a D...but that was for Spanish Mum! I got a C for Science and an A for maths and English. Please, Mum, you know I can't do Spanish," he whined as he came closer. He broke away the hold between Aleena and Aisha before holding her hand to his chest. "I got two As Mum. Aleena only got one for Maths."
"Hey that's not fair! You know how hard I find it. I'm dyslexic you idiot!"
He ignored her and looked down at Aisha. Before he could say anything, Aisha spoke. "I'll think about it. I want your test papers on the desk and your full report which you probably opened and tried to seal back. I know you fools very well."
I chuckled, tightening an arm around Aisha. I kissed the top of her head and she looked up with a smile. I pecked her lips and heard Asif fake vomit.
"It wasn't even a kiss!" I complained. "And this is us showing you how you should be when you get married. You are going to treat your wife well and love her and you, Aleena," I said turning to her, "your husband shouldn't treat any other way apart from-"
"Yes, I know, hugs and kisses and presents-"
"You don't need presents. Aneel what have you been telling her? No presents, Aleena. You don't need to be spoilt."
"And why can't my daughter get spoilt? She's my little princess."
"Your daughter?" Aisha scoffed and pushed my arm away. "Your daughter my ass." I groaned as I watched her walk away. Aayan came into the room and jumped on top of my stomach. I bit back a groan as he smiled down at me.
"I missed you, Aayan." He giggled and stuck a hand out for me to shake. I chuckled lightly as I shook his hand. "I love you."
"I love you too, Abbu."
"Can Abbu get a hug?" He frowned with a sigh. But a few seconds later, he leaned down and kissed my cheek. "Thank you, buddy." I sat up with him in my arms and I was surprised that he didn't struggle his way out of my grip. "Abbu loves you, okay?" I kissed the top of his head before I stood up.
I walked up the stairs, careful not to step on the one step that creaks. When I made it to the bathroom, I saw Aisha patting her face dry with a towel. I leaned against the door and sighed.
"Have you been crying?"
"No!" She huffed and tried walking past me but I kept my ground. "Aneel!"
I gently placed a hand on her cheek and saw the tears in her eyes. I quickly dropped the small smirk on my face and straightened up. "What's wrong?"
"I hit my elbow on the door..." I sighed in relief as I kissed the top of her head. "And then I stubbed my toe, like really hard."
I looked down at her when she sniffed. "Did my clumsy wife do anything else?"
"Punched her husband." I was about to question her when I felt her punch my arm. I smiled at her before leaning down and giving her a kiss. This time there were no kids to fake vomit so I placed a hand at the back of her neck, pulling her in that little bit closer. Once I pulled away, I took her hand and walked into our room.
"Lie down. You need to rest properly." She didn't whine this time but just got under the covers and placed her head down on the pillow. I got in beside her and she turned to face me, kissing me once again. I slowly pulled away when I heard the kids moving downstairs, knowing they would be coming up the stairs. "I love you," I whispered before kissing her softly.
"I love you too." She buried her head into my neck and I smiled as I placed my head on top of hers.
Just then the kids came in and Asif sighed. "You guys are always lying down."
"Shut up, your mum isn't feeling well." Aleena came and lay beside Aisha. Asif then sighed and crawled over me to which Aayan then followed. I watched as Aleena turned the T.V on and selected the movie she had been dying to watch. I looked down at Aisha again and ran a hand through her hair. "You okay, love?"
"Yeah. I guess we'll just have a movie night with the kids." I smiled into her hair before looking back at the screen.
