"So, you and Liam, right?" Louis asks the girl in front of him. He is out with Liam, Harry, and this girl, Ashley, but both the other boys have gone to the bathroom. It's been two days since the whole Rob thing and Harry and Louis still haven't made any effort to become anything more than friends—who cuddle a lot.
"Liam and I, what?" she asks.
"Are you dating? Seems like it."
"Oh, no, not yet." She smiles and takes a drink of her soda in front of her. Hopefully soon, Louis thinks. Liam hasn't had a stable relationship for as long as Louis can remember. He just wasn't great around girls in highschool, and the trait carried on throughout his life. This Ashley chick seems nice, to Louis, though.
"Hello, Lou." Harry speaks into Louis's ear after he wraps his arms around him from behind. Louis blushes as he gasps in surprise.
"Hey, Harry." Louis says nonchalantly.
"How long have you two been dating?" Ashley asks innocently. Louis smiles. He's glad she thinks they're dating, even though they aren't. Hopefully they will be, soon.
"Oh, we're not dating." Harry replies, tangling his fingers in Louis' hair. Louis is sitting in a chair across from Ashley and Liam, and Harry is standing behind Louis, yet to sit down.
I guess you could consider what the four were doing now a double date, but none of them even thought about that. They just chill and talk about the random shit that's been going on this week.
They are doing that for who knows how long until Elaine walks into the restaurant.
"Oh, shit. Hide me." Harry curses and ducks behind Liam, and Louis pulls the hood he's wearing over his head. Ashley looks around in confusion, not knowing what the fuss is about.
Then, Louis starts laughing. It's kind of a low chuckle, but again, Louis laughs when he's nervous or uncomfortable, sometimes. This just happens to be one of those times.
Louis quits laughing abruptly and becomes quite curious when he sees who Elaine came with. He is a guy who looks shorter than Harry, and he has blonde hair and blue eyes. Harry is watching this, too, and he can't help but run over to the couple.
"Niall? What the hell?" He asks the blonde, whom we now know is Niall.
"Harry! Didn't expect to see you here. This is Elaine!" Then Harry remembers, he was supposed to explain to Niall what happened at the bar, but he got held up by Zayn and forgot to tell him. Oops. And now, here's Niall, out on a date with his superbly annoying ex.
"I know her." Harry replies, and Elaine is looking up to Harry with a very panicked look on her face.
"Oh. How?" Niall asks.
"Uhm, she was a waiter at a restaurant I went to last week." Harry lies, and Elaine secretly thanks him when Niall is distracted by someone who is guiding him to a table for two. Harry doesn't really know why he did that for Elaine...
He decides to let them go through with this date, and if Niall doesn't come to his senses, then Harry will tell him the whole story.
Harry then returns to the others, and he explains how that's Niall, his best friend—and to that, Louis makes a pouty face while saying, "I thought I was your best friend."—is on a date with his ex-girlfriend. Ashley and Liam both take the information well, and the night continues without another word about it.

When Louis gets back home, he finds an email he's been looking forward to all year. It says that Louis's manager has booked a flight for him to the U.S., so he can go see all his American friends—and other friends from all around the world, really—at VidCon. This year, though, it just so happens to be in a very strange place.
