Chapter 1: Awake
I hear a quiet beeping.
I open my eyes and realize I'm lying in a hospital bed. There are a couple tubes and needles inserted into my arms a large quilted purple and blue blanket is draped over me. I look around to take in my surroundings. I move my head and see that my left arm is covered in scratches. Theres also a small bedside table with a card on it that says get well there are a few signatures written in colourful markers... I don't recognize any of the names though.
I turn my head to the right slightly so I am now facing forward. There is a boy sitting in a ugly lint covered dark green chair beside a large window where summer sunshine shines through the partially open blinds filling the room with natural light.
The boy is just above average height and appears to be about 14 his fingers are entwined together and his face is angled towards the ground. His shortish black hair is sticking up. He's wearing a baggy navy blue hoodie with Hurley written in orange across the chest and loose faded jeans.
A tear falls from the boy's face to the floor before the boy looks up. His dark blue eyes stare into mine a look of shock crosses his face and, his eyes dart to my right. I look beside me and realize there is a lady next to me holding my hand, she's weeping. Her face is to the ground she does not notice I'm awake.
She looks to be in her mid-forties she has shoulder length black hair. There is also a man beside her with his face in his hands. He looks to be about the same age as the lady he has very short light brown hair.
I don't recognize any of these people around me and I don't know what caused me to be hospitalized.
The lady and the man haven't noticed I'm awake and the boy seems to be in too much shock to say anything. Not knowing what to do, I wiggle my fingers.
The lady's head quickly snaps up followed by the man. I can now see both their eyes. The lady has bright blue eyes like the boy, but hers are red from crying and the man has dull brown eyes.
There stare at me for a few moments before the lady abruptly stands up and hugs me. I stay rigid in her embrace.
"Oh my god, you're awake." She sops letting a few tears escape her eyes and land on my shoulder. "You're okay" she says seeming to try to convince herself.
Why? I wonder. What happened to me? Who are these people? Who am I?
"Zach go find a nurse tell them that Dezarai's awake." says the man as he sits in a chair looking unsure of what he should do.
Dezarai? Is that my name? I wonder. Must be. I decide since I am the only person in this room besides the people around me and none of them had been asleep.
The boy, who I now know is named Zach, quickly jumps up from where he was sitting and rapidly walks out of the room.
At that moment I realize I don't remember a lot of things. I mean I'm guessing that these people must be my parents. But I don't really have any memories. I know that I live in British Columbia although I don't know where in BC. Also, I'm 16 years old but I don't remember my birthday. I seem to remember places, knowledge of stuff you would learn in school and stuff about celebrities like Katy Perry and one direction but I don't have memories of people or events from my own life.
"How are you feeling honey" asks the lady sniffling.
I'm tempted to ask her who exactly I am and who she is but I feel as if I would make her upset and I don't know what to say so I ask her if I could have a glass of water to dodge her question.
The lady nods and walks out of the room rapidly. The man sits there beside my bed silently I'm unsure of what to say. Just as the man is about to speak a doctor in light green scrubs, who looks to be in his late twenties walks in. I presume he must be the doctor.
