Lloyd POV
Many, MANY puzzles later, we came to a clearing with a black tree. The tree looked to be thriving, though it was growing through purple stone. Toriel suddenly walked over. She lifted hep phone to her ear, and looked alarmed. "My children, are you alright? Here let me help." Suddenly, our HP went back to twenty. "Thanks..." Zane muttered. Toriel smiled. "I wasn't expecting company this soon, but please make yourselves at home. Smell that?" I sniffed at the air. It smelled absolutely amazing, like cinnamon and pie crust and butterscotch. "Butterscotch cinnamon pie. I made it special, for all of you. I'll hold off on snail pie for tonight." We went into the quaint little house, saving along the way. The floors and walls were a soft beige, golden flowers thriving in pots. Toriel led us down a small hallway. "Surprise! Your very own room. Sorry it's small." She ruffled my hair with a paw, and strode away. "She's so nice to us!" I said, breaking the silence. "I agree. But still, keep vigilant. We must get back to the surface at all costs. Humans aren't welcome here." Zane said quietly. Jay huffed. "Stop being such a downer! We can chill here until we want to move on." Cole nodded. "We should at least rest." Kai gave us a face. "Shut up, everyone! I'm trying to sleep!" Sleep did sound good. "Let's get some rest. I'm tired." I curled up on the bed. Zane sat next to me, looking... unsettled. Jay was already snoring, along with Kai and Cole. "Is everything alright bro?" I asked. He jolted a little. "L-Lloyd! I thought you were asleep..."
"You're acting weird. Tell me what's wrong." I commanded. He took a deep breath. "Something's off about this whole thing. The way Toriel says things... she acts like we'll be staying here forever." I nod. She did seem to act like that. "Maybe I could talk her into letting us out. Ask her how to leave." Zane smiled a little. "I do want to get out of here. Maybe it's possible..."
"What do you mean, maybe it's possible?"
"I've heard that once you come in to the underground, you cannot return to the surface. Unless you die." This seemed a little weird, but I went with it. "Worry about that later. Let's sleep for now, alright?" He nodded, dark circles visible under his eyes. "Yes... sleep sounds... nice." His eyes were already almost closed. He had always been sleepless, always waking up screaming. None of us had bothered with that though, because he would never tell us. Soon, my eyes were closing, and I fell asleep.I awoke to an amazing smell in the room, the same as earlier. I looked to the floor to see five small slices of butterscotch cinnamon pie, small dollops of whipped cream on top of them. Beside me, Zane opened his eyes. He looked like he hadn't slept at all, but hid it well. Kai awoke next, then Jay, and lastly Cole. "Awesome!" Cole squealed, running to the floor to collect his. "Hey! Don't step on me, dirt clod!" Kai said indignantly. Jay groaned, rolling out of bed. Zane smiled as I got up. "Did you sleep well?" He asked them. "Hell yes!" Kai said. Cole grunted. "Kai kept kicking me." Jay glared at Cole. "You drool too much!" He said. As they were squabbling to and fro, they picked up pieces of pie and put them into their respective bags. "Monster food won't fall apart." Explained Zane, probably sensing my question. We all walked out together. Toriel was sitting in a monster sized chair, reading from a large book. I stepped up and tugged at her purple dress. "Ah? Hello, child! Is there something you need?" I sighed internally. I didn't want to do this, but I did want to go home. "How do we get home?" I asked. Her expression changed to one of confusion. "This is your home now, children." I looked back. Zane's icy blue gaze was locked on to me, begging me to push further. "No, I wanna go back to the surface. How do I get there?" Toriel's face went to a desperate smile. "Would you care to hear about the book I'm reading?" She said, trying to change the topic. " It's called '101 uses for snails.' I think you would like it." I looked back at the others. Zane was blinking back tears, trying to keep it together. I had always been slightly aware of his sensitivity and his weaknesses, but most of all, he hated losing people he had started to care about. And he had started to care for Toriel. "Please. I wanna go to the surface." She closed her book and rose. "I have to do something. Stay here, all of you." She walked away. I followed, the rest of them behind me. She walked down a flight of stairs. We followed. She stopped in the middle of the hallway we were in. "You wish to know how to return 'home', do you not?" Her tone was numb. "Ahead of us lies the end of the ruins. A one-way exit to the rest of the underground." Kai gave me the look of 'why-did-you-do-this-to-me?'. "I am going to destroy it." She said blankly. Zane blinked in shock. Cole shook his head. "No one will ever be able to leave again. Now be good children, and go upstairs." Despite her warning, we pressed onwards, a tense silence settling amongst us. She stopped once again, her expression blank as well. "Every human that falls here meets the same fate. I have seen it again and again." She said. "They come. They leave. They die. You naive children..." Kai looked offended, but kept his mouth shut as she continued. " If you leave the Ruins... They... ASGORE.... Will kill you all." Zane started to question himself. I could tell by the look on his face. "I am only protecting you, do you understand?" Her voice had a little sadness in it, but she stifled it quickly. "...go to your room." Despite her saying this, we pressed onwards. She stopped again at a curve. "Do not try to stop me. This is your final warning." Following her, we turned the corner into a circular room, a large door in the wall behind Toriel. "You want to leave so badly?" Her voice was raised a little. "Hmph..." She was quiet for a second. Cole was trembling a little. Jay was standing firm, looking ready to fight. Zane was behind me, most likely bracing himself. Toriel spoke again. "You are just like the others." After another moment of silence, she turned towards us. "There is only one way to solve this. Prove yourselves. Prove to me you are strong enough to survive!" The room went dark. The soul illuminated us. It was light blue. Zane's eyes widened. "Why me..?" He said. He braced himself for a battle with Toriel.
