Chapter 1

Random story

It was a day just like any other day, I was on my daily morning run/sprint. I was training for the half marathon this coming weekend. I've been training for almost 5 months. I'm Grace by the way. I stopped out of breath. I looked up to see where I was and saw my best friend Toby. He was with his older brother Connor. They saw me and waved. I jogged over.

"Hey guys! What you guys doing up this early?" I asked grabbing my water and drinking some.

"Just chilling at the park, and it's only 8:30, Grace. Did you think we would sleep in," Connor joked.

"Well that explains where Riley is. How is he by the way? I heard his girlfriend broke up with him." Riley was Toby's other older brother, but Riley is younger than Connor.

"Well, let's see. Um so yeah he cried him self to sleep last night and didn't want to come to the park with us this morning cuz he looks really bad. But other than that, he's fine," Connor said while shaking his head no.

"Well maybe I could try to cheer him up, but only I if it's ok with you guys' mom," I also had to go home and take a shower, did I mention we lived in Orlando, Florida? And that it's summer?

"Riley would love that!! Wouldn't he Connor?" Toby asked jumping up and down like I did when we were going to the movies.

"Toby, you don't know that, but he could use a girl to talk to, but only if you don't mind," Connor was so considering of what I had to do.

"Yea I'd love to! I'll have to shower before, because I've just finished running. But I'll be over in like half an hour," I said starting to walk away.

Almost an hour later I was finally walking over to their house. My mom made me do some chores. I knocked on the door. Their mom, mamma Jone, opened the door, " well hello there Grace, Riley's up stairs in his room."

"Thanks momma Jone!" I yelled as I ran up the stairs to Riley's room. I stopped when I heard him crying to Connor.

"She was spost to be here by now..."

I decided to knock on the door, "um hey Riley you in there?"

Conor opened the door,"he really needs to talk to you...like now," he pushed me into the room.

"Grace!!" Riley yelled and hugged me. "Where have you been? I needed you?"

"I'm sorry my mom made me do chores and then my brother threw a water ballon at me and soaked my shirt so I had to change...and I have no excuse!! You needed me and I wasn't here. Oh Riley!! I'm so sorry!"

He let go,"it's alright, Grace, you're here now," he hugged me tighter.

"Awwww! They made up!!! Toby yelled from the door way.

"Toby! Give them their privacy!" Momma Jone yelled at him.

"So what do you need me to do to make you feel better?" I asked Riley looking into his brown eyes.

"Honestly I just need to hold someone," he said smiling down at me.

"Well come on then! Let's pick a movie out and you can hold me whole we watch said movie," I smiled up at him.

So we went down stairs and picked out a movie. Once the movie was over my phone rang.

"Grace, please come home for dinner, your father and I have a surprise for you and your siblings."

"Got it mom, I'm coming right now," I said as I stood up.

"What is it?" Riley asked waking up from his nap. He had fallen asleep during the movie.

"I don't know. My mom said that she had some news for my sibs and me, so I probably should go now and help set up the kitchen table," I said as he stood up and hugged me.

"Alright swarty," Riley kissed my forehead. Then I left.

While walking home I wondered what it might be. Where we moving again? God I hope not! I raced home!

"Please tell me we're not moving again!?!" I half yelled half spoke to my dad who was watching football.

"We'll tell you at dinner. Help your mom set the table," my dad said not taking his eyes off the TV.

"Hi, mom...so what can I help you with?" I asked.

"Nothing. Go to your room."

I just went to my room and fell asleep. When I woke up it was midnight, and I was starving. I got up and slowly walked down the stairs to the kitchen. At the bottom of the stairs I heard my parents talking.

"I'm worried about her, she barely eats, and has terrible nightmares." My mom said to my dad.

"She'll be fine, and if she's not she would tell us, I trust her." That was it I slowly walked back the stairs then very loudly walked down the stairs.

"Oh Grace, you're finally awake. Are you hungry?" My mom asked.

"No just thirsty. I'll eat a big breakfast," I smiled at her. Then walked back up the stairs. I pulled my phone out of my back pocket while I closed my door and called Toby.

"Grace, you do know what time it it, right?" Toby asked with his sleepy voice.

"Yes, I do know what time it is, is Riley awake?"I asked.

"Why don't you call him and find out," Toby asked hanging up.

So I called Riley.
