Chapter 6 - The (Extremely Awkward) Canteen Trip

The first two periods went by quicker than Tsumiki had imagined. Soon enough, the bell had already rung for lunch break. This was it. Tsumiki was utterly determined to return Io's scarf to him, whether it'd kill her or not. She felt bad for keeping it for a small while, and Io probably needed it in future...

Tsumiki and her friends had gathered in a small group in the corner of the classroom.

"I'm going to the canteen," said Io as he rose from his seat.

"Get me a sandwich and juice, Io!" said Sakaki, lazily resting against his seat. He wasn't bothered to go with him this time. Io deadpanned.

Tsumiki saw this as a chance to be with Io. Alone. The thought of it already made her cheeks warm up. She hesitantly got up from her seat, tugging gently at Io's sleeve, bringing his attention to her.

"C-can...I come with you?" she stammered nervously with red cheeks, while looking down.

Io's face reddened once again. How was Tsumiki having such an effect on him? He pushed those thoughts aside. He couldn't be thinking about this right now. Not that he even minded Tsumiki going along with him..he was more than happy to spend some time with her. Alone. He nearly blushed at the thought.

"S-sure," Io replied, trying his best to keep his cool. He couldn't show his friends that he was clearly very happy and embarrassed.

Tsumiki's heart fluttered. She shyly went beside him, clutching the small bag with Io's scarf in it. The two starting walking out of the classroom, trying hard to ignore the smirks and giggles that came from Mayoi and Sakaki. They could really be annoying sometimes... She sighed.

An awkward silence came upon the two of them. Neither had the courage to speak, but the two stole small glances at each other every now and then. Tsumiki mentally scolded herself. She was supposed to give him his scarf now!! Setting all embarrassments aside, she couldn't let go of this chance..

"I-Io."

Io looked down at her.

"Yes, Tsumiki?"

She could feel the blush creeping up her neck, and spreading onto her cheeks. Never had she felt her heart beat this erratically. Looking down once more, she mustered up every bit of courage she had in her.

"I-I--"

She noticed that they were already at the canteen..

"I-I'm going to buy a bread bun, h-how about you?" she asked. Dang it. That was not the question she was gonna ask!

"Oh, I was going to buy one as well," Io replied. "H-how about I buy one for you?" he asked, a shy blush spreading amongst his cheeks.

Tsumiki's cheeks turned a bright red. Io had never asked her such a thing.. it made her heart skip 2 beats.

"Y-you don't have to!!" Tsumiki protested, like the tsundere she was. "I-I can buy it myself...i-it's not like I want you to buy it for me or anything!!" (I cringed at this line...XD)

Io gave her a gentle yet shy smile. She was adorable.. Io thought. ...Dammit. Why were these thoughts always coming back to him?

"I'll buy it for you. I insist, Tsumiki."

Tsumiki could hear nothing but her heart pounding wildly from her chest, like a wild animal thrashing around in it's cage.

"O..o-okay..." she stammered, her head lowering as her bangs succeeded in shielding her tomato red face. Io's smile never left his face. He gently gave her a small pet on the head. It was usually considered a sign of friendship or endearment, nothing more... But for some reason, Io didn't just want to give Tsumiki head pets.. He blushed at the thought. (Now all u pervs better not start thinking the dirty >w>)

He pushed those thoughts to the very back of his mind, shaking his head.
"Let's go, shall we?" Io asked, trying to hide his embarrassment from thinking so much about her.

Tsumiki nodded shyly in response, as the two proceeded the line to get their lunches...the scarf still not returned to Io.
