Calum’s POV:

I tapped my pencil against my notepad as I hummed to myself. My fingers gripped onto the yellow wooden pencil while I scribbled the words that came into my head.

She sits at home with the lights out, seeing life in different colours.

Disappointed, I frowned to myself before I heard the honking of a car. Looking up, I spotted Ashton in the driver’s seat. I quickly gathered my things and rushed to his car. Flinging the door open, I threw all my belongings into the passenger’s seat and took a seat beside him.

“So how was Support Group?” His voice boomed through the car as he turned down the radio. I shrugged, hesitating as to whether to tell him about Elizabeth. “I sort of met a girl,” I told him, excitement ringing throughout my voice. Ashton grinned like a Cheshire cat before inquiring more about her. I was stumped, I realised I didn’t know much about her.

“How’d you meet her?” Ashton asked again. “We were in the break room, I think she was having Support Group too but we aren’t in the same class.” Ashton nodded, fixing his eyes on the road. Before long, we arrived at Luke’s house for band practice. Our band did gigs at events and we’d opened for a few bands before. I wouldn’t say we were great, just simply average.

Entering Luke’s house, we were welcomed by the sound of acoustic guitars and Michael and Luke singing at the top of their voices and random screaming. Ashton and I made our way to the basement after greeting Liz. Luke and Michael were strumming their guitars and singing in harmony.

“Hey Cal,” they greeted, waving their hands while keeping the other on their guitars. I waved back with a small smile before picking up my bass guitar while they swapped out their guitars for electric guitars. Ashton took his place behind his drum set. Luke suggested practising ‘Teenage Dream’ by Katy Perry so we began with the intro.

I think you’re pretty without any make-up on. I think you’re funny, when you tell the punchline wrong. I know you get me so I let my guard come down. Before you met me I was alright but things were kinda heavy. You brought me to life. Now, every February, you’d be my Valentine.

Luke’s part was after mine and before long, we’d worked through the entire song. We smiled proudly, knowing that we were ready for our gig tomorrow. We’d been practising everyday, usually after my support group, at Luke’s or Ashton’s house. Our gig was at a prom, for a high school nearby. We’d selected a couple of pop songs— Teenage Dream, Time-Bomb, The A Team, some One Direction songs and a few of our original songs. The event also required us to wear formal attires— to us that meant our usual band tees with a blazer or a button up with skinny jeans and Vans.

The day before the gig we'd sleepover at Luke's house so we could get enough rest and practice. So as usual, we gathered in Luke's room. All of us in our boxers and sprawled on the floor except for Luke and I who crashed in his bed.

Everyone dozed off, but my mind was still stuck. Stuck on that one girl-- Elizabeth.
