Slowly the light starts flooding my eerily perfect dream, my head falls over to something hard and my eyes fly open. The hard thing, being the window, was moving up and down like the whole bus. The light outside was blinding and all I could see outside was: sand, sand, canyon, sand and more sand. The sky was incredibly blue and reflected everywhere. Somehow it was beautiful even in the middle of nowhere.
I was about to close my eyes again when a voice startles me, “Why hello there.” I jerk my head surprised to see a dark haired girl with big glasses and chubby cheeks.
“Uh hi?” My uncertainty must have showed on my face when she laughed and my reaction.
“I’m sorry I have the tendency to not be noticed. You see I’m a dream reader, and I love watching people sleep.” Her eyes were bugging out of her head and she looked like a lost puppy. I smiled at her.
“It’s okay, I’m Annabelle. But everyone calls me Anna.”
“I’m Daisy. Nice to meet you!”
Her words came back to my mind and my head cocked to the side confused, “You said you were a dream reader?”
She nodded enthusiastically, “Yeah, I can see what people dream and sometimes change it slightly.”
Okay, I didn’t expect that, “What?! Are you making fun of me?”
“Oh no, if you want proof then I can say what you were dreaming about! You were seeing your father smiling to you and you mother too the were hugging you and—“
“Stop okay I believe you.” Somehow her voice, her words had me believing every word she was saying, but the logical part of my brain told me that it was impossible.
She grinned and pointed at the window, “There is the Academy!” I turned over to the window and saw an enormous canyon and I laughed.
“There’s just a canyon there’s no school there.”
“Oh no there is, it’s right at the bottom of the canyon. You’ll be able to see it in about 15 seconds when we start going down.”
Slowly I counted, curious of what I would find. The bus stopped and turned into a small road going down into the canyon and a glass building came into view with a huge white building with an open roof and of course huge glass windows stood beside the first one that came into sight. Slowly two rectangular glass buildings side by side were in a corner along with miles and miles of green grass and sand. Wow a pool! My gasp was definitely audible as I hear Daisy giggle seeing my reaction.
“Dear Anna, welcome to St. Adam’s Academy.”
I hadn’t noticed but the bus was quite full as people filed out and everybody started filing through the largest building that Daisy mentioned it was the Lobby and into a gigantic glass room with hundreds of chairs sitting side by side but still slightly divided.
“This is the Meeting Chamber, we hardly ever use it except for big reunions and first day.” Daisy’s whisper caught my attention and I was about to ask her why the strange name when a tall man came into the room. He looked about 6’9feet and had graying hair with dark brown eyes twinkling at the sight of all the students in the room.
“Settle down please and take a seat.” His voice boomed all around the room, almost seeming impossible coming from such an old man.
“Sit down Anna!” I felt Daisy’s hand pull me down on a chair next to hers.
The man walked to the podium in front of the room. He gave a warming smile before launching into a speech.
“Welcome back those of you who already know me, and welcome to those have joined us this year! I am Professor Denicov the headmaster of St. Adam’s Academy.” He gestured around him and continued with his prepared speech, “I know most of you know why you are here, but I also know that some of you” he paused and looked at me straight into my eyes, or maybe right into my soul, before continuing, “don’t have any idea why you are starting at an Academy in the middle or no where. Well you are not the normal teenagers that you see on the streets, you are special. Not stupid or challenged, not at all, on the contrary: you have gifts enabling you to do things that other can’t do. For example, some of you may control electricity or be wizards. You are part of another world; many years ago we were the ones who inhabited the Earth, the Sun and the Moon. Now after the Battle of the Shadows humans have out taken us. Here in St. Adam’s Academy you learn to control and make the right use of your gifts and learn the history of the people before you. I hope you will enjoy your years with us and may the year begin!” His hands raised and he looked up shouting the last words.
