Prologue
Artemis' eyes scanned the valley, she was sure she had heard the call of distress from this area but there was no sign of anyone or anything. Artemis knew she must hurry because there was no telling what was wrong, but she knew that it was deadly serious. A piecing, desperate howl cut through the cold December air; chilling her to the bone. Her icy cold eyes flew open as recognition hit, that wasn't just any wolf's howl it was her twin sister's.
Artemis instantly flung herself into action, she is the daughter of the Alpha therefore she must use logic when in dire situations. That is what she was taught since birth, but since this was her sister whom was in a life or death situation all logic flew from her mind leaving her filled with a sense of urgency.
Nearing a clear patch in the dense forest that surrounded the Hunter Clan territory, Artemis could scarcely hear voices and sinister laughter. Dread began to seep its way into her as she got closer. The stench of fresh blood swirled around in her nostrils as a faint yet shrill scream ricochet off the trees, followed by another burst of laughter. Bounding into the clearing Artemis froze as she came face to face with a brutal sight, across the clearing at least a mile away her sister lay limp, bruised, and bloodied. Four hunters encircled her and they all had the same expression, one of pure evil and malice.
"Time this little wolf learned her place." A Hunter holding a crossbow let out in a cold, vile chuckle. If a person could be the definition of evil; it would definitely be him. Artemis began to charge forward even though she knew it would be futile, she couldn't possibly make it in time. She watched helplessly as a silent, yet deadly arrow plunged into her sister's skull.
A grotesque sound of bones cracking and protesting echoed throughout the area as the arrow met its target. Artemis let out a heartbreaking howl full of sorrow and anguish, but soon her sadness turned to hate and anger. She set her icy glare upon the four Hunters before her, Artemis' frozen stated seemed to vanish as she launched her unforgiving revenge.
Artemis tore at their throats and ripped them limb from limb; she did so contently and happily. Enjoying every minute of the bloodshed and chaos, their screams of pain and horror filled her ears like a beautiful melody. In that time of bloodshed and chaos however, the true culprit for her sister's murder escaped; and Artemis has never truly forgiven herself for that grave mistake.
