We are running through the woods and I can hear voices yelling behind us. With the tears filling in my eyes I can barely make out anything in the dark woods. I feel Aaron grab my elbow and pull me ahead reminding me that I have to keep up. I start breathing hard because of all the running and my brother takes notice.
"Faye" he says in a whisper, "are you alright?"
"I'm sorry" I breathe out, "I don't usually run so much and I think I'm quite out of shape."
"I told you not to eat all those sweets, Faye." I hear my sister laugh in a breathy voice.
"Please, you're just as bad as me" I say trying to laugh but instead coughing. It's always been like my sister to try and lighten up the mood even in the worst of situations.
We have no idea where we are heading but only know to keep running. I remember reading in one of our books that these forests used to be green and luscious and full of all kinds of animals and rivers. The skies described as a blue vivid that not even the oceans could compare too. But as I look around now all I can see are our usual dead trees that look as if they could touch the sky. I have also never seen an actual ocean but if it were as blue as the sky then that wouldn't be as much.
"Ah!" Willow moves towards me still in a run and asks me in a worried and urgent tone, "what's wrong?".
I wince in pain for a moment but manage to keep my pace and tell her it's nothing. The last thing we need is for me to be slowing us down because of a small wound. Willow seems to think this is an acceptable answer and looks forward again.
In my stride, I look down at my feet and after looking down for a minute or so, I find it. I see a larger sized twig sticking out of the back of my lower left leg. My eyes widen but I bite down on my lip and look back up, trying to forget that there is an awful pain burning in my leg and most likely a wound that would require stitches. Something about this twig is odd but I am determined to run to safety with my siblings before worrying about it.
My mourning and pain no matter how terrible is going to have to wait. I wipe the tears out of my eyes with a damp sleeve covered in tears from earlier and force myself to calm down. Thoughts start to invade my mind of wondering if we will ever find where we must go. Mom only ever told us to run away. I start to fear that we will never find anything and my head darts around looking for something, anything. I spot some silhouettes further into the distance ahead of us but they are so far and bleary that I must be hallucinating.
Suddenly we hear the voices much closer and I glance behind us to see many lights and other shines that aren't quite like that of a flashlight . How have they gotten so close to us? How can they possibly know where we were headed? Although, we also do not know where we are headed. There's no way we can outrun them at this point..
*THUD* suddenly my feet fall out from under me and I fall flat on my face. I can't move my body and I feel pain stinging across my entire body.I am turned over by someone and feel a sharp pain right below my chest. My eyes start wandering around looking all over at the dead trees above us. I try to call to my siblings but no words come out. I see Aaron and Willow appear above me yelling something but whatever it is I cannot hear. My breathing starts happening in shorter and shorter gasps and I start to panic. A twinge of black stabs at my eyes. I start to lose all feeling from earlier. The pain starts to subside as I see another person running up and I lose any hope I previously had. Is this it? Have they finally caught up to us? I'm sorry mom, I'm so sorry...
I feel my body getting lighter and a slight pressure on my stomach all of a sudden. After what feels like an hour I get a rush of tingling through my body and an intense stab of pain where the pressure had been. I hear a loud, horrific scream and feel tears running down my face. Willow takes my face and is yelling again but it sounds like I am laying under the water in a bath. I search her face through my teary eyes and can see the worry expressed but my eyes continue to blind with the terrifying amounts of pain rushing through my body.
The screaming in my ears seems to go on forever before I see a young girl's face flashing before my eyes. My arms and legs are gripped down tightly and I try to get free but to no avail. A sharp and quick pain invades my shoulder and the tears stream down more. My eyes start to see more and more black and the screams in my ears become weaker and weaker. The pain in my stomach fades and I close my eyes and I fade into the darkness consuming me.
A/N Wow! A new chapter for each story today! I was good! Haha sorry this chapter isn't as long. The next one will probably be twice as long so look forward to it! See ya! ;)
