Nathan's POV

Nathan wasn't sure what to think as he ran out of Charly's apartment building and back into the rain. His thoughts were a jumbled mess. What was he supposed to think after hearing something like that? Hearing something like that. He had to hear it by accidently overhearing a conversation! She didn't even tell him! That made it fucking worse.

He jogged through the rain back to his apartment, not bothering to shield himself from the rain. This time the sidewalk was so empty there was barely anyone to shove out of the way.

The freezing cold rain drops pelted against his face as he ran through the rain, thoroughly soaking him. He had to squint his eyes in a mostly failed attempt to keep it out of his eyes. Not that he really cared. He couldn't even feel the cold.

Before he even realized where he was going or what he was doing-which seemed to be happening a lot that day-he found himself walking into his apartment and slamming the door roughly behind him, not caring if he ticked off his neighbors. He walked into the living room, not caring about the water dripping off of him onto the floor. He just stood there, letting it pool at his feet.

Suddenly, he felt the weight of it all slam into him like someone had just thrown a bowling ball at his chest. He gasped and reached up to pull at his hair. He felt broken and lost. His heart felt like it weighed a ton and he couldn't decide if he wanted to hit something or just lay on the floor and let it consume him.

He went for the first option.

He ripped off his jacket, his breathing coming out in angry huffs as he chucked it across the room.

*Nathan walked up to the door of Charly's apartment and paused. It had all seemed like a good idea back at the bar, just come here and demand to know what was going on.*

Stupid! He'd been so fucking stupid! He shoved a glass from earlier off of the side table and listened to the sound of it shattering against the ground. The sound of it only seemed to infuriate him farther.

*He took a breath and went to knock on the door. He was already here, and he needed to know what was going on. Just as his fist was about to collide with the door, he heard a noise come from inside that caused him to freeze.*

Nothing in his life had ever turned out good for him! Why the hell would this be any different?

*"Are you kidding me? I haven't heard a word from you in over a week and you don't know what to say? Seriously, Charly?!" Was that Stacy? Maybe he should just come back later....*

He yanked down the mirror hanging above the couch and slammed it back against wall, ignoring the shards that exploded in his direction. Stupid, stupid, stupid!

*"I know, but I have a good explanation, I promise." Charly's muffled voice came to the door. He really shouldn't eavesdrop.

"Oh, yeah? Let's hear it!" Stacy's much louder voice followed. She sounded really mad.*

He threw the remaining bits of mirror on the ground with the rest of it, not even noticing the blood that started to drip off of his hands as he looked for the next thing to break.

*"I'm waiting!" Stacy snapped. He knew he should go, but for some reason, he only found himself moving closer to the door.

He had to strain to hear Charly's quiet reply "Stacy, I... I'm sick."
