"Glass!"
"Glass I can't keep up!" Through the darkness, Hope grabbed Glass' wrist and pulled her back.
"Hope, we can't stop. If they catch us." She turned around and stared up at the older girl through tired eyes. "They'll kill us." Glass' voice wavered as she spoke. Hope shook her head and bent down to Glass' height.
"No. No they won't. Glass, it was too dark" She smiled and gestured down to her protruding belly. "They didn't see you, you can run. But I can't run anymore. It's too late for me." Hope's head snapped to the side as the sound of boots slamming against concrete grew closer and closer. Hope pushed Glass away from her and began walking backward toward the noise. "Run back to the vault, Glass. And be strong." Hope gave Glass a forced smile as she rounded the corner.
and instead of screaming and running after Hope like she wished she had the courage to do, Glass ran.
"Glass!.... wake up Glass!" However unpleasant reliving the past was, it was much better than being forced back into reality. Glass wanted desperately to stay hidden behind the mask of unconsciousness, to stay hidden away from Immortan and his army of war boy scum forever and just make a home among her memories- good and bad alike- but her sisters needed her more than Glass needed her muddled dream world. She Very hesitantly opened her eyes and allowed them to adjust to the bright light of the wasteland. "Oh my-, She's awake!" The Dag eagerly lifted Glass' head off the ground and rested it on her lap. "You scared us." She began to wipe away the sand that clung to the girls face.
"How is she?" Furiosa and the rest of the wives crowded around Glass and tried their best to help her to her feet, but Glass could barely hold a sitting position for more than thirty seconds,
Let alone stand up straight . What had happened? Had she fallen off the rig on her way to Furiosa? Or had she been attacked? Thoughts raced around her head as fast as one of Immortans pursuit drivers. She wanted to know what happened but for the moment, she was grateful she could even see straight. "Here. Take this." Furiosa handed Glass the water hose she had attached to the rig. Glass grabbed it without hesitation and guzzled as much as she could before she ran out of breath. As she swallowed the last of the water that remained in her mouth, she felt the sand that had lodged itself deep into her throat fall away and in its place, a new found energy took over. She tossed the hose to the side and pushed herself to her feet. She wobbled, she tripped, and she desperately clung to the wives as she attempted to regain her balance.
And once she finally did, she recognized the rhythmic thumping of the drummers brought along with
Immortans convoy. But even more noticeable than the fast approaching beating was the figure with a war boy slung over his shoulder hobbling ever so slowly toward them and the rig. Glass tried to alert Furiosa, but her voice was drowned out by the sound of a body hitting the floor. Her body stiffened as her eyes darted between the passed out war boy on the sand and the feral looking man in front of her. Splendid was the first to speak."We're not going back." Glass nodded. Although she wasn't sure that the man had intended on bringing the wives back to Immortan at all.
"Water." The man growled and gestured toward the hose Splendid was holding with his gun. Glass held her hand out and offered to take the hose away from Splendid in an attempt to protect her unborn child but Splendid shook her head and began walking toward the man. She held out the hose, everyone else held their breath. He snatched it from her shaking hands and instructed her to turn around, using his gun as leverage. Using one hand, the man turned on the hose, aimed it toward his mouth and through the muzzle attached to his face. Watching the feral Man guzzle down their precious water angered Glass, But something told her she'd have much more to be angry at. The man turned the hose off and threw it down onto the sand beside him, almost hitting the still unconscious war boy laying at his feet. Next he held up his chain and grunted. The Dag tried to pass off the bolt cutters in her hand to Furiosa but he groaned in protest, making the Dag jump. Glass had wished she had offered to take them for the Dag. If she got close enough she could hit him across the face with it before he even realized what was going on. But she just stood there, letting her blood boil and her anger consume her. The Dag slowly trudged up to him, her back slightly hunched and her steps small. When she finally reached him she hesitated on cutting his chains and instead peered behind him at the convoy behind him. They were moving fast, if they didn't start moving soon they would definitely get caught. They had at most a five minute head start. He roughly tugged on his chain to gain the dags attention. Her body stiffened as she lifted up the cutters and attempted to sever the chain in two but being trapped in a vault for your entire life does offer much opportunity when it comes to working out, all the wives had next to no muscle mass. Glass clenched her jaw and continued to watch the Dag struggle to cut his chains, but out of her Peripheral vision she noticed Furiosa barrelling toward the man as the Dag pulled back on his chains, putting him at a disadvantage. She knocked him off his feet and pulled the car door and the war boy with them. She began punching him over and over again until he finally loosened his grip on his gun. She punched him one more time with the stub where her hand once was and shoved the gun under his chin. Glass instinctually covered her ears to shield them from the thundering bang that was sure to come, but it never did.
