**Sixteen years Later**

"Capable I can't take it anymore! I'm restless!" I rubbed my hands down my face as i paced back and forth in front of Capable. "I have to get out of this Vault... Even if it's only for one minute." I sat beside her and started thinking of all the possibilities of escaping our awful 'home'. There were to many to count but only 5 ideas came to mind that were even remotely sane.

"Glass don't get to ahead of yourself. This place isn't all bad..." I looked at her and it seemed as though she didn't even believe the words she had just said, they were only for me.

"I have an idea." I said, completely disregarding what capable had said. "when the war boys come in to check up on us I'm going to punch him real hard, right in the jaw. He'll have to take me to immortan if that happens." I stood up and began walking towards the silver door of the vault but Capable grabbed my wrist and pulled me back.

"Glass, are you insane? You can't do something like that! Might I remind you what happened to Meredith? She wasn't even here two days before immortan got tired of her." I smiled at Capable's attempt at persuading me to change my mind.

"But you see, Meredith didn't have something that I do." She raised an eyebrow at me. "I'm one of the favorites, Capable. I have what would could be called total immunity." As I said those words a feeling of pride and smugness came over me. I knew he would still hurt me but he wouldn't dare try to kill me. I could provide a male heir for him in time, he would never risk that.

"Fine then, what about Angharad? She's always been immortans favorite and look at her. How do you think she got those scars?" She held out her hand and gestures towards Splendid who was napping on the couch beside us with her arm wrapped around her ever growing belly.

"Capable just give it up. You're not gonna stop me." I pulled my hand from her grasp and stood beside the vault door. The war boy comes in every mid-day which had to be soon, I'd already been up for a few hours. As I was getting deeply lost in my own thoughts, I heard the vault door slam shut. The slam was followed by the heavy steps of a war boy wearing his combat boots. I timed my attack perfectly, flinging out from my hiding spot right as he exited the small tunnel by the vault. I swung out my fist and connected it with his nose and heard the satisfying crack of a breaking bone. He stumbled back and grasped his nose, which now had a large line of blood trickling out of it.

It didn't take long for him to regain his composure and jerk my arm towards him, so he could pull me out of the vault. "You're gonna pay for that, Sweetheart" As the last word left his mouth i felt my stomach tie itself in tight knots. He had been calling me that since i was twelve years old all because he knew i would go haywire every time Miss Giddy would try and call me by the awful pet name. I hated it. I kept walking towards the approaching green of the indoor farming system. My favorite part of everything I had ever seen inside the Citadel, which wasn't much but when you're locked in the vault all day, there's not that much to see. My joy turned to anger when the war boy caught up to me and grabbed my arm again, leading me down a stone when he jerked my arm backwards, stopping me form walking any faster than he was. He led me down corridor I had been down many times. It lead to immortans overlook of the wretched. It was where the war boys always took us when we were being difficult. It didn't happen often but whenever it did it was almost always just me being extremely unreasonable

Inside Immortans personal quarters was a large Aqua-Cola filter in the middle of the room and at the end, a balcony looking out over the entire Citadel.  The boy pushed me into the room and let the door close behind us, I quickly looked over the entire room and spotted Immortan in a room right beside this one, it was smaller than this one and had much less to look at. The war boy lead me through the stone arch leading to the room and as soon as we entered, Immortan took his attention off of the woman he was talking to and focused it all on me. I suddenly felt very Squeamish and I found myself trying to move away form his prying eyes.

"Why is she here?" Immortan breathlessly grumbled in that mechanical voice that sent a chill down my spine.

"Your little Toy here punched me straight in the nose." He pushed me in front of him so i was standing right in front of immortan. "No doubt trying to escape." He spat venomously as i rolled my eyes at his obvious lie.

"I don't have time to deal with your foolish behavior-" he looked past me and at the war boy standing right behind me. "-put her on the wall." Immortan dismissed the war boy and I as he turned back towards the woman he had been talking to. I glanced over at her and she was staring at me with a horrified look on her face. Before I could comprehend why she looked so worried for me on my own the war boy showed me. He pulled me over to an empty spot on the wall but beside it there was a small table with four items on it, a rusted hammer, and two huge rusted nails. Immortan walked over and picked up both the nails and the hammer while instructing the boy to hold my hands above my head. He did as he was told and shoved me against the wall while holding one hand above my head. I knew what was going to happen next and there was absolutely no way I'd let him get away with it. I lifted up my leg and kicked the war boy in the stomach. He doubled over slightly but not enough for me to wiggle out of his grip. Before I had a chance to move Immortan slapped me in the face s hard that i swore i could feel the bruise beginning to grow already. The force of the painful hit made me bite down hard on my bottom lip. A large amount of the metallic liquid had begun to gather in my mouth and i spat it out on the ground, a large amount of it landing on the war boys boots.

"Bite me, Joe." I spat in his face and clenched my teeth together. My words seemed to only anger him even more than he already was but i felt no regret for my words. He was planning on hurting me and I wasn't going to pretend I was okay with it like the other girls always did. He held up the nail onto my hand and used the hammer to pierce through the skin and into the wall behind me. I felt the blood slowly trickle down my arm and soak into my white fabric top, I could feel the tears gathering in my eyes and a scream forming in the back of my throat. I bit down on my lip as hard as I could until I tasted the blood fill my mouth. I opened my mouth and let my head hang down toward the ground. I gathered all the strength I had left and pulled my hand as hard as I could against the nail; but the nail was too far into the Rock to budge.
All while this was happening joe and the war boy just stared at me with looks of triumph on their ugly faces.

"Grab the knife." Joe pointed toward the table right beside me. The war boy nodded and hurried over to the table that held two knives, one just slightly bigger than the other. He grabbed both and handed the bigger one to Immortan while he kept the smaller one. With a nod of immortans head the war boy came forward and cut one of the straps on my shirt exposing my entire shoulder. With one swift move of his wrist, Immortan cut a small X-shape on my shoulder, then another, and another, and another, until my entire shoulder and neck were covered in bleeding X's. At this point I didn't even have enough strength to scream. I just let my head hang while he continued cutting my skin.
'Why won't I just pass out?' I pleaded with myself to let darkness take over until this was over but the darkness never came. The only thing I felt at all was the white hot pain radiating from my shoulder to the rest of my body. After another excruciating ten minute I felt myself begin to slip away. With my last ounce of strength I lifted up my head and caught the gaze of a boy I had never seen staring at me through eyes that held a look of sympathy, or Maybe it was something else. He broke the momentary eye contact we had made and disappeared from my line of sight. I almost prayed that He would come back and rescue me but I knew thinking that way was a waste of time. No war boy would ever care enough to help any of the wives in this situation, hell most of them would probably pay to watch it happen. I let my head fall again as I began to feel a strange feeling of peace overcome my body. I could still feel the dull ache from the knife that slowly carved its way through my skin but the pain became less and less noticeable as I lost the grip on consciousness and slowly faded into a cloud of black.
