This one...may be a bit long.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH GOOD CHARACTERIZATION!

Do people not know how to make appropriate feelings surface from your writing?
Example: Roy is charismatic, sly, manipulative fuckboy who doesn't let his opinion be know about anything important.
Ok that's a great description of him. Now how do most people put that in their work. Simple answer: THEY DON'T!
Why don't you people just fucking use the characters they way they are. It's what makes them likable ( or dislikable) if I see I Roy/Ed fanfic and Roy acts like Hughes I'm not going to read it! You know why? THATS NOT HOW THE CHARACTER WAS DEVELOPED!

I get it guys it's hard to make certain characters act how you want them to when they are stone cold pillars of sadness, but a good writer should be able to work within that and find a way to still get the message across that "hey he's upset" without having them break down sobbing or spiral into a crazy depression the lengths of which we've never seen happen to them before.

Going back to my Roy example. If Roy is upset, have him lash out in anger or close himself off but it to the point where it's out of character and unheard of for him. We've seen Roy get upset on the series, he lashes at people or he stays quiet about it and moves on. The only time we've ever seen him be so upset as to wanton to give up was in Ishval.

"but what about when Ed was transported into the other world. Roy was so upset he stopped trying to become the furhur"
I hear all of you and yes I know this! But he didn't spiritless downwards into a crazy ass depression he just stopped going towards the thing he had been working for. Sure he was upset but everyone was Ed was a big part of everyone's lives and he just suddenly up and vanished leaving most to assume he's dead. Of course Roy is gonna be upset he's grieving for a lost friend and a lost companion.

Before you even ask what about Hughes. Ok so Hughes was the exact same way! Roy and Hughes knew each other for a long time. They were on the military academy together and went through a lot of tough shit. That was the only time I've ever seen Roy cry but he picked himself up after it. Sure he may have lost his shit in brotherhood but he snapped out of it. He went nuts because he found out who Hughes killer was and he snapped. Reasonable.

With Edward I'm more lenient on it. Ed doesn't show much but you can tell he feels guilt and remorse for the past. It's clear if he were to ever lose Al he'd break and fall apart. I don't know to what extent, but just from the sheer intensity of the way he communicates to Al it's clear he'd break if he lost him. Im more than willing to admit Ed would probably go into a depression if Al died. I know he would. I'm so faithful in that assumption I've stressed it in my writing.

Anyways what this was about was basically telling everyone to stop overdramatizing characters that don't need it.
