Chapter Six:
We were at a slow jog to get back to the lab when a thought hit me. I stopped walking entirely.
"Oh my God." I say in reaction to my realization. Steve looks over, worried.
"Are you okay?" he asks. I shook my head no.
"I just realized what they were using the Tesseract for." I say. He waits, confused.
"These guns are huge." I say, looking at it.
"And..."
"And Shield was going to need something to power it. Something huge...something not human." I say and he gets it.
"They're going to make weapons with the cube." Steve says, putting two and two together.
We ran back to the research lab, busting in on Bruce, Tony, and Fury.
"What's Phase 2?" Tony demanded.
"Phase 2 is Shield using the cube to make weapons," Steve said, putting the gun on the table, "Sorry, computer was moving a little slow for me."
"You're a group against hostile forces attempting to make a hostile weapon?" I ask sarcastically.
"Rogers, we gathered everything related to the Tesseract. This does not mean we're making-" but Tony cuts him off, turning a screen to face us.
"I'm sorry Nick, what were you saying?" he asked. A diagram of a gun being powered the cube showed up. Proof that Shield is lying.
"I was wrong, Director. The world hasn't changed a bit." Steve said spitefully.
"Did you know about this?" Bruce asked Natasha, who had entered the room.
"You want to think about removing yourself from this environment, Doctor?" Natasha asked.
After that all hell broke lose. It was Natasha against Bruce, Steve and Tony against Nick, Steve against Tony, Nick against Thor...when did Thor get here?
"Why is Shield using the Tesseract to make weapons?" I finally shout over the madness, finally getting everyone to shut up.
"Because of him." Fury said, pointing to Thor.
"Me?" Thor questioned.
"Last year, Earth had a visitor from another planet who's grudge match leveled a small town. We learned that not only are we not alone, but we are hopelessly...hilariously outmatched."
"My people want nothing but peace with your planet." Thor said, uncomprehending.
"But you're not the only people out there, are you? And you're not the only threat. The world is filling up with people who can't be matched, who can't be controlled." Fury, said trying to make us understand.
"Like you controlled the tube?" Steve asked.
Arguing broke out again and my head was spinning trying to keep up with the conversations.
"And, Rogers, how do you even know what the truth is? Is Caruso trying to compromise your opinion of Shield? She is not to be trusted under any circumstance." Fury barked. I definitely heard that. I flash Fury a look.
"Don't." was all I said. Steve looked between me and Fury.
"What is he talking about?" he asked. I stared Fury down.
"Sage Caruso. Ex-member of a hostile threat group at the age of thirteen. Has killed one man, who was innocent. Also, used her power to help steal top secret blue prints from the US government on multiple occasions." Fury spat out. The room went silent.
