"Luke," I managed to finally say. Before I could tell him it's not what it looks like he spoke.
"What the hell, Sky? Ashton?" his voice was low and even but his eyes were angrier than his tone let on. He was giving us a chance to explain.
I took the opportunity gratefully.
"Luke, I just came over to tell Ashton... what I told you last night," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
"You saw him last night?" Ashton questioned.
Crap, I probably didn't need to mention that in front of Ashton. I bit my lip and squeezed my eyes shut.
"Don't lie to me, Sky," Luke interrupted, ignoring Ashton. "You two looked pretty cozy when I first walked in."
I shook my head, trying to keep up with the conversations. "I was just comforting him."
"Take it easy, mate. She's telling the truth," Ashton eased. Luke shot him a look and Ashton put his hands up in defense. He put them back at his sides and stepped towards Luke but I remained between both of them.
"Calm down," he said quietly.
"Don't tell me what to do Ashton!" Luke suddenly yelled.
"I'm just trying to help you! Getting mad isn't going to get us anywhere!" Ashton fired back.
My heart was racing. The thing I was most afraid of happening was unraveling right in front of me. I was becoming anxious and frantic, watching them argue over me.
"This is exactly what I didn't want!" I yelled over them. A few tears stained my cheeks and I quickly wiped them away. "You keep telling me that you'd both be able to handle liking the same girl but you can't! You're at each other's throats already. Just please stop. I'm not changing my mind."
A light sob escaped my lips and their expressions softened.
"We're sorry," Luke said softly.
Ashton placed a hand on my shoulder but quickly removed it after sharing a glance with Luke.
"I'm sorry," I whispered, "I should go."
I made my way for the door when Luke called out.
"Sky, wait. Please."
I stopped with my hand on the door but didn't turn around.
"Give us a chance," one of them whispered.
"No," I said. I turned around to face them.
"Please," Luke begged.
I felt like there was a weight on my chest and I couldn't breath. I didn't want to hurt them anymore. They deserved so much better than anything I'd ever be able to give them. I was beginning to feel overwhelmed.
"Vegemite," I said under my breath. I stared at the ground.
"What?" Luke asked. I held my head up at looked at Ashton. Our eyes met.
"Vegemite," I repeated. He frowned, knowing what it meant and nodded his head ever so slightly.
"Stop, mate. Let her go," he said softly.
"What?" Luke said again. Ashton gave him a look and Luke's shoulders slumped a little. He breathed in deeply and nodded his head.
I shared one last look with each of them, their eyes full of pain. I turned to open the door but stopped.
I stayed facing the door. "I love you," I said quietly to one of them.
Without looking back, I swung the door open and rushed for the elevator. As soon as the elevator doors swooshed closed, I broke down crying, knowing I'd never see them again.
Super short chapter! Bit of a filler. Tell me what you think is gonna happen :) x
