A Few Days Ago

I had to stop myself from dancing and screaming as I turned in my last test to my teacher. It was finals week at school and somehow, I had just survived it. I’d have the next two weeks off to do whatever I wanted. And is if the universe were listening to me, my phone rang in my pocket.

“Hey, is your class finished yet?” Carrie asked from the other line.

“Yes, finally,” I breathed while walking to my car.

“Good, mine too. Which calls for a celebration tonight.  Because we somehow made it through the week of hell they call finals.  We’re so going out and partying,” she said. I could hear the smile and excitement in her voice.

“Yeah, I could go for a drink tonight,” I said.

“Yay! See you at home.” She hung up. I was about to start my car when my phone beeped and alerted me of a text message. My heart dropped when I saw who it was from and I had to keep checking to make sure my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me. It was from Luke.

Hey, Sky. It’s Luke Hemmings. Turns out we’re staying in San Francisco for awhile.

I smiled and stifled a squeal as my phone beeped again.

Me and the boys wanted to take you up on that offer of showing us around the city :)

I tried to contain myself as I texted back.

Of course! That’d be fun. Carrie and I were planning on going out tonight. You boys wanna join?

I pressed send and held my breath until he replied.

Sounds good. Send me your address.

When I told Carrie the news, she was ecstatic and starting mumbling about what to wear and what she should do with her hair and makeup.

“Carrie, breathe,” I said calmly, grabbing her by the shoulders. She just smiled into space and nodded.  I sighed and giggled. “Just go get dressed. They’ll be here in an hour.”

She ran to her room and I headed for my closet. As I picked out my clothes, I wondered what it would be like with Luke and Ashton again. They acted odd when we met them the other day and I wasn’t too sure why. I contemplated asking them about it but decided it would probably just make it worse. They’re friends, they’ll work it out.

I chose to wear my black Jada dress that I’d gotten from Brandy Melville a few weeks ago and paired it with black combat boots. After I was done doing my makeup, I stepped back and looked into the mirror and smiled. I always felt more confident and prettier with makeup. I let my hair down out of a bun and decided to leave it wavy and messy. As I was putting on my earrings, the doorbell rang and my breath caught in my throat. This was really happening.

Carrie opened the door and called out, “Sky, lets go!”

I grabbed my purse off of my desk and joined her in the living room. They were all standing in there, smiles and all. I caught sight of Carrie who was wearing a cute, pink dress that fell just above her knees.

“Whoa, you look hot Care,” I winked. I turned to the boys and Michael and Calum came up and hugged me as if we were old friends.

“Nice to see you again,” Calum said as hugged me. Luke and Ashton hung back and stared at me. I started to blush.

“What? No hugs from you guys?”  I asked Luke and Ashton jokingly.

-Luke’s POV-

I heard Sky’s footsteps coming down the hallway and I stood up a little straighter. Which was pointless because the second I saw her, my heart jumped out of my chest and my posture was shot. She looked beautiful. Her eyes were sparkling and her body…

She giggled lightly and broke me from her trance.

“What, no hugs from you two?” she asked. It took me a second to realize she was talking to me and Ashton. My palms suddenly became sweaty and my breathing rapid. The mere sight of her made me nervous and now she expected me to hug her? I let out a breath and gave a small smile as I wrapped my arms around her waist. My heart was beating so hard that I was afraid she’d feel it when I embraced her. I loved the feeling of her next to me. She was intoxicating. I unwillingly stepped away, wishing I could hug her a million times again.

Hadn’t I met this girl only a few days ago?

-Ashton’s POV-

Sky came from her room and the second I laid eyes on her, it was like someone had punched me in the stomach and left me breathless. That’s exactly how I felt, breathless. She was an absolute sight to see. Her small, shy smile was the most contagious I’d ever seen and all I could think about was tasting it…

“What, no hugs from you two?” she giggled. My heart dropped at the tinkling sound of her cute voice. I waited for Luke to hug her and I felt a twinge in my stomach. Then I wrapped my arms her body and whispered into her ear.

“You look amazing,” I said quietly. I stepped back to see the blush that I knew would arise in her cheeks and my heart beat a little faster. She was beautiful.

Hadn’t I met this girl only a few days ago?

-Sky’s POV-

We called cabs to take us around the city. Carrie said it would complete the feel of being a city walker. Although I’d rather drive my own car than sit in back of a smelly, sticky cab.

“They’re downstairs,” Carrie said as she hung up her phone. We had to take two cabs since there were so many of us.

“Michael, come ride with me,” Carrie said confidently as she strode to one of the cars. He followed willingly with a wry smile on his face.

“Um, I guess I’ll go with them,” Calum said hesitantly, knowing he was going to be the third wheel. I was giggling at the awkwardness of their situation until I noticed the awkwardness of my own. I looked to my left and there stood Ashton and Luke at the curb. I smiled nervously, although I had no idea why I was nervous.

“After you, my lady,” Ashton said sarcastically as he bowed and opened the door. I laughed and slid into the backseat. Luke climbed in on my left, Ashton followed me on my right. My heart began to beat faster.

The ride to the restaurant was short and quiet besides Ashton’s light tapping on his knee to whatever song was playing. I let out a long breath as we pulled up to the building.

I could Carrie’s flirty laugh as she climbed out of the cab, Michael and Calum in tow. I envied how effortless her confident attitude was.

We sat down at our table, same arrangement as the cabs. Carrie, Michael and Calum on one side of the table and was sandwiched in between Luke and Ashton on the other. Not that I minded. They were just acting odd.

Dinner was nice and the conversation was hilarious. We really got to know each other and realized that were all really alike. By the end of the meal, it was like we’d been friends for years.

“Oh my God!” Carrie exclaimed, looking at her phone. We all turned to her, wondering what she was gasping at. Without asking, she explained. “Austin Ryder just invited us to his party. At Golden Gate Park,” she squealed.

“Golden Gate Park?” Michael asked.

“It’s the park right next to the Golden Gate Bridge,” I answered. He nodded.

“Well do you guys wanna go? He throws the craziest parties. And it’s next to a tourist site so it’d be like killing two birds with one stone,” she sang. We all mumbled “sure” and “sounds fun” and “yeah”.

And with that, we were off to the party of the century. And little did I know that it was the beginning of a crazy, unforgettable night.
