The rest of the day flies by. Mark doesn't call once, I guess that water bottle came in handy. I lose track of the time thinking of Mark. I can't stop thinking about him. He's a patient, I have to stop thinking about him as more.
The computer finally rings and I straighten up. "First time in a while. Did you scare him off?" I smile and shake my head. "Nah, I just got him a water bottle." Lily throws her hands down on her desk. "Well that makes your job ten times easier. I'm kinda jealous you only have two patients just 'cause you moved a floor." I shrug. "Well, duty calls." I say and walk to room 16.
I walk in smiling. He smiles back but looks embarrassed. "What do you need?" I ask. "Err, can I request a shower at some point today?" I nod. Again, not the first time I've done something like this. "Yeah, I'll tell the nurses I'll be gone for a bit." I say and exit the room, walking to Lily and telling her what I'll be doing. "Can you get someone to clean that bedpan too?" I ask and take the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash from her hands. She nods, looking back down at her computer.
I walk back in to Mark trying to sit up, clenching his stomach. "Here, I'll help you." I say and walk him into the bathroom. He sits on the built-in chair in the shower, me turning around as he changes into (I'm guessing) swim shorts. I turn on the faucet, pulling the arm away from the wall. I turn back around and freeze for a second while looking at his perfectly toned body. I shake the thoughts from my head and spray the warm water on his body.
I watch the soapy bubbles slide down his tanned torso as he leans back on the chair and closes his eyes. I move the shower head over his collarbones and down his arms. "Hair." I say and grab the shampoo. "Do you use conditioner?" He just nods and looks straight, his eyes still closed. I move the shower head to his hair and run my fingers through it. He just sits there letting the water run down his face, catching on his eyelids, dripping off of the end of his nose and his chin.
"Is this how you always take showers?" I ask him as I run shampoo through his hair. His straight face turns into a smile. "Shut up," he says while laughing. "I'm tired, I barely got any sleep last night." I spray water on his face. "Will that wake you up?" I say, laughing. He laughs an adorable laugh. That was the first time I've heard him laugh. It's so adorable it makes me smile just thinking about it.
I hand Mark the shower head. He looks at me confused. I look down below his torso for a second. He nods and I exit the bathroom. I hear him curse under his breath and I ask if he is okay. "Yeah..uhh..can you get me another robe thingy? This one got a little dirty." I laugh at him saying "robe thingy" and exit the room.
I come back with a clean hospital gown and a comb for his hair. I knock to make sure he is covered. He says I can come in and I open the door. He is sitting on the chair with his arms crossed and shivering. "I-I-I didn't want t-to waste the w-water so I t-turned it off." I grab the towel that I had by a vent so it was warm and wrap it around him. He grabs it and hugs it close.
After a bit of him warming himself up, Mark changes into the clean gown. I walk him back to his bed and lay him down. "Hey, I...err...I want to show you a bit of YouTube. Not my channel but someone else's." I shrug and look for a place to sit. He moves over and I sit next to him. He pulls the blanket over me and turns on his laptop that I had to almost fall off the bed for. After opening YouTube and looking up in the search bar "Pewdiepie", he clicks on a video called "Try Not to Laugh Challenge!"
I play along and start dying laughing in the middle of the video. Mark's laughs start to become quieter until there aren't any. I pay more attention to the video until I feel weight on my shoulder. I look at the reflection of the computer and see him fast asleep, once again. I guess he was tired. I wait until the video is over and Mark seems asleep, I close the laptop and set it on his bag, sliding off the bed carefully enough to not wake him. I lower the bed that he raised so we could sit together and refill his water bottle quickly. Once everything is in order and I clean up the dirty towels and gown, I turn off the lights and close the door.
I look at the clock on my phone that reads 4:26. Usually, by this point in the day, I would be excited. But I don't want to leave Mark before he wakes up. My thoughts get interrupted by Lily. "I'm sorry, I totally forgot to ask my boyfriend about that thing." I think about Fisher. "It's okay," I say. "He can do it tomorrow. What's his name, anyway?" I ask. "Bennet." She replies and smiles. "Oh, also, the scary boss says he wants you." She points down the hall. A chill runs down my spine just thinking about it. My head moves up and down involuntarily and I start walking down the hall.
I open the loud creaky door I can hear from my desk. "Hello Miss..err.." the door slams shut loud enough I can't hear my name. "You are new to this floor, correct?" Mr. Thomas asks. I nod and look around nervously. "I have gotten a few..complaints, if you will, from your co-workers saying that you have been spending quite a lot of time in room..what was it...sixteen?" I shrug. "I mean, I guess, sir, but that's only because he calls me every five minutes." He just smirks and searches through the papers on his desk. "Well, I just got told that you were sitting together on his laptop?" My face goes pale. "Is this true?" He asks. I just nod and look down.
"You need to focus on your job. If I hear this happening again, there will be consequences." He looks to the side, his scruff-covered jawline protruding from his face. I just look away at his attempt to flirt with me. He excuses me from the room and starts looking through his drawers for something.
