I finally get home and sit on the couch heavily. Thank God it's Friday. I grab my laptop and start watching YouTube, when my phone goes off. I open it and read "Mark" on my screen. The corners of my lips curl up and I text back. 'When are you going to be strong enough to do stuff alone?' I ask. He just texts back 'soon.' And changes the subject. I really want to see him. I miss him so much.

I close my laptop and walk upstairs into my room. I get on my hands and knees and reach under my bed, feeling around for pieces of paper. I feel the smooth and dusty surface and pull it out. Canvas paper, big enough to fit an easel. I pull my easel out from between my dresser and the wall and set up the giant notebook on the stand, setting my other paintings on the bed. I pull out my human model from my pocket and clip it to the easel.

I draw for hours, sketching and erasing and sketching again. Once I feel like I can't hold up my pencil anymore, I put everything down and go to bed, thinking about what I want the picture to look like and how I am going to do it. It takes me an hour to fall asleep, as I keep checking my clock thinking about Mark too much. But finally, after watching one more video of his on my phone, I fall asleep to his voice.

The Next Morning
I wake up at 10:07. Makes sense, since I fell asleep at like two in the morning. I check my phone to see if Mark texted me. I smile brightly when I see his name on my screen. 'Good morning! I'm feeling a lot better today. Did you want to go do something?' He asks. My heart skips a beat and I type quickly into the message bar. 'I would love to! What time?' I pocket my phone and walk down the stairs to get breakfast.

I set my bowl of cereal on the table and check my phone once more. 'How about at 1? Want to walk around Elysian Park and go to a movie?" He asks. I text back yes and grab clothes, walking in the bathroom to take a shower.

I look at myself in the mirror, my baby blue skirt with a brown belt spinning around my waist as my white tank top and black cardigan pull close to my body. I start pacing around the house nervously, checking my clock as each minute passes by. 12:54, 12:55, 12:56.. It seems like every minute is lasting ten. The nervous pain in my chest becomes unbearable as my clock ticks 1:00, but Mark isn't here yet. Finally, at 1:04, Mark pulls in.

"Hey!" Mark says as I close the door of his car. "You look so different without scrubs on.." he says. "I mean, you look amazing no matter what you wear.." he trails off. I just laugh and respond, "Thank you for the compliment hidden in there somewhere." He laughs as well and pulls out of my driveway, going right to the Elysian Park.

We talk and laugh the whole time, me admiring him in a red flannel and his singing. We pull into the park, Mark getting out first to open the door for me. I thank him and walk to the grassy area, him following behind me. We walk through the park, talking and enjoying the scenery. At one point, a squirrel prances up to Mark and stares at him. Mark just looks at the squirrel and says, "I don't even have any peanut butter on my face!" I stare at him weird and he starts laughing. I just roll my eyes and smile at how amusing he finds himself.

We wander around the park a bit, until we decide to walk down a street called Blake Avenue. We walk up and down the different streets, Mark's hand finding its way intertwined with mine. I smile at him as he does it and squeeze his hand tight. We wander around the town, getting slightly lost for a few minutes, but finding our way back to Mark's car. "Movie time?" He says. I nod and Mark starts the car.

We pull into a theatre I don't recognize. We walk inside, looking at the different posters for recent movies. "What are we gonna go see?" I ask him. "Is Doctor Strange okay?" He asks. I grin and nod. I have wanted to see that once I saw the first preview. I wouldn't want to see it with anyone else but Mark. He orders tickets and a large popcorn for us to share. We also get medium drinks and walk into the theatre.

The bright red lights on the floor illuminate the path down the dark room, the previews already playing. We find a seat around the middle of the theatre and start eating popcorn. We go through half of it before the movie starts, so Mark volunteers to get more. Once he does, the movie starts. Just his luck. He comes back quietly, sitting down and handing me the popcorn.

We walk out of the theatre at around 4:30, the blinding light and chilled wind messing with our senses. I cross my arms as we walk to Mark's car. We get in and Mark drives in the wrong direction of my house. "Where are you going?" I ask him. He just smiles and focuses on driving. I look out the window at the houses and small shops as we drive by them. I smile while thinking about this day and how I wouldn't want to spend it with anyone else.

We pull back into Elysian Park, Mark grabbing my hand once we get out and running through the park. I laugh the whole way as he drags me along until he stops running, sitting down on the slightly wet grass. He pats the spot next to him and I sit down as well, asking him what we are doing here. He moves next to me until our shoulders and legs are touching, he then leans back and puts his weight on his arms. I do the same thing, lacing my fingers between his and smiling at him. Mark smiles back and looks around the park, his red hair and brown eyes glistening in the setting sun.

We sit and watch the sunset, enjoying the sounds of people walking by us and the shaking of the trees as they dance together in the wind. We catch each other's glances at some points and smile at each other. This is the perfect first date. I suddenly get chills from the sudden gust of wind. I cross my arms and tuck my legs to my knees, trying to conserve body heat. Mark puts a hand on my back. "I have a jacket in the car. Want me to get it?" He asks. I just nod and look at him, smiling.

Mark walks in the direction of the car, leaving me alone. I suddenly look around, noticing two girls stare at me weird and hear a guy whistle in my direction. What did I do? I try to ignore them, but the stares become more and more noticeable. My breathing starts to become heavy and I hide my face in my knees. When will Mark come back?

He eventually comes running back to me. I don't know how long I was sitting like that, a few seconds, an hour, I lost track. He wraps his warm jacket around me and wraps his arm around me. I pull the jacket tighter to me and lean on his shoulder. "What happened?" He asks quietly. "Everyone was staring at me." I say, trembling. "It's okay, I'm here now." He responds, hugging me tight.

I completely forget about what happened earlier as the sun peaks over the horizon, a bright orange and pink color glazed across the sky, small darker orange clouds scattering the beautiful scene like sprinkles to a cupcake. The colors make Mark's eyes twinkle with a beautiful orange color. My features must be more prominent as well, because he keeps admiring me and telling me how beautiful I am. I blush and run my hands across the smooth tinted grass, enjoying this perfect moment.

Once the sun disappears from view, Mark and I walk back to the car hand in hand. Once we are inside, I give him back his jacket and adjust my cardigan. "Did you have a good time spending five hours with me?" He asks laughing. "Best five hours of my life." Mark smiles and focuses on the now dark road. We talk for a bit until Mark pulls into my driveway. I've never wanted to stay in a car more in my life. We both get out and meet each other in the front of his car. Mark puts his hands on the back of my neck and pulls me close to him, our lips colliding.

We enjoy each other's taste and I wrap my arms around Mark's neck, my fingers running through his soft hair. We part and smile at each other, enjoying the other's company one last time. We say goodbye and Mark gets into his car, pulling out of my driveway and driving away.
