We've packed up. Do you know how hard it is to have to choose only certain items out of your entire duplex to fit into your small bag? I had to leave behind my favorite old-timey trilogy, the Hunger Games, as well as the Graceling series. I KNOW I KNOW I HATE MYSELF TOO, but they just couldn't fit. The guards check in on us everyday, so we have to act like we are doing something else other than planning our escape. Teagan had the great idea (note sarcasm) of pretending that we were pretending to pack for a game we were playing. Great idea, Teagan. *claps slowly* Amazing.
I still have no idea how we're going to get back. There are a ton of reasons why we shouldn't, including the fact that our parents probably hate us and never want to see us again because they basically threw us out and sacrificed us for their "reputation". I hate them and they hate me. Simple. I don't understand Teagan's sudden urge to go back to the people who practically threw us away like nothing.
Back when we were young, Teagan and I used to sing little quatrains of songs that we made up. There was this one song called "Equality for Bronzes" that we made up and sang all the time when the guards weren't paying attention. I loved that song, but wished that all of us siblings, including Iris. I wish that there were four of us so that we could sing it like one of the quartet things I read about in a history book that I snuck from the Bronze/Quarantined library that's separate from everything in the outside world. It wasn't that cold when I got outside. Only 0 degrees centigrade, not too bad. It could have been worse. Much worse.
How are we supposed to surprise Mom and Dad with our escape while the bicentennial anniversary of the supercontinent of Eurasia is coming up? The Queen wants to celebrate with a parade going all the way across Eurasia, and people cheering for her for "uniting the continents and making the world safer and happier". Yes, she totally made the world safer and happier by causing World War VI and killing over 3,000,000 people. Safe and happy, am I right?
Anyways, the Queen wants some people to volunteer to compete in a decathlon after the parade across Eurasia. *cough cough* the bronzes *cough cough* If those people can prove how good they are, then they get to stay. Otherwise, they get executed. Not fun to watch on continental holotelevision (or Holo TV), especially if you can barely go anywhere to escape it ( you don't know how small this duplex is). It is horrifying, especially when you hear the last screams of the person. I'm shuddering thinking about it. If you win, you get to live equally with the golds and silvers, since they almost never volunteer. The one time one of them did, they lost to a well-trained bronze who trained all his life for the decathlon. It was sad to see that silver get executed. At least they tried.
"Ready to go?" calls Teagan, in a semi-childish voice. Oh yeah. The "game". Well, beats torture every day. "Yes! Let's go!" I call out. Let's go away.
