In the Royal Pledis Palace, everyone was in a frenzy, preparing for Prince Mingyu's coming of age ball. He would be turning twenty one this year. The royal chefs cooked day and night, maids made sure the place was spotless, and landscapers prepared the venue. It would be one of the most spectacular ball the Kingdom has ever thrown.
In the Throne Room sat King Seungcheol and Queen Jeonghan. The King was a very kind and thoughtful ruler. He would always make sure that his subjects were pleased and that the Kingdom was prosperous. Queen Jeonghan's beauty was out of this world. He had beautiful long, luscious hair that framed his beautiful face. The King and Queen loved each other very much and always made sure they had time to spend with their beloved, adopted son, Mingyu. They were patiently waiting for their son to arrive since they wanted to speak with him.
"Mother, Father, you wanted to see me?" Entered the boy. "Mingyu, my baby boy," cried his Mother, giving him a long hug. "Please let me go Mother, I'm not a little boy anymore," he gasped, prying his Mother off of him. "It's just so bittersweet, watching you grow up." Jeonghan said, faking a tear.
"Mingyu, the reason why I called you, is that I wanted to tell you something important." His Father started. "As you may know, you're going to be picking a future wife or husband at the ball. I've already told Vernon, your advisor to send out invitations to every young maiden and gentleman, noble or commoner," said the King.
"I already know that Father." Mingyu replied, "But, what I want you to know is that, your Mother and I want you to be happy with your choice of spouse. We want you to feel the love that your Mother and I have with each other," Seungcheol said to his son. " You guys are gross around each other though.." Mingyu cringed. Trying not to think about those times he'd seen his parents in full display of affection.
"That's, not the point of this conversation," Queen Jeonghan stated, "The point is that we want you to find true love, find someone who loves you for who you are and not your wealth and status." He finished.
"That's impossible, Mother, true love doesn't exist. People only want me because I am the Prince, I don't think anyone can look beyond that," he said, sadly looking down at his feet. "If you'll excuse me, I want to go out for a bit." Mingyu turned on his heel, and walked away.
