The truck pulled in. Mike wheeler was in his basement with all of his friends, playing D&D, like always. At the sound of the huge moving truck, the boys leapt up from their seats, clambering over to the window to see what new people it brought with it. The moving guys got out of their truck, and instantly began to unload it. A rickety old car came speeding up, parking in front of the new home.
Two men got out. Twins. One was put together, cleanly shaven, wearing what looked like glasses, and dressed in a light brown trench coat. The other was a mess. Even though he sported a suit, he had a beard growing in, and looked like he hadn't showered in days. The next people to emerge from the car excited the four boys.
A girl and a boy. They looked to be their age, and also, twins. The girl had long dark brown locks and a colorful sweater, which hugged her body perfectly. The boy had a blue and white hat on, a navy blue vest, and a full head of brown hair to match the girl's. He seemed to be clutching something, possibly a book. The boys couldn't wait to meet their new neighbors.
"Let's go over there!" Dustin exclaimed, hopping up and down on his heels. "We shouldn't bother them! They just got here!" Lucas fought back.
They were interrupted by a woman's voice calling from upstairs.
"Micheal!"
Mike rolled his eyes, leaving the window and his friends, to go see what his mother wanted. He emerged from the basement, slightly annoyed. His mother pulled freshly baked cookies from the oven, a small smile painted on her face. Mike got excited, thinking about the delicious cookies on his taste buds. He went to reach for one, until his mother slapped his hand away.
"They aren't for you, Micheal," she stated, setting the pan down to cool,"They're for our new neighbors."
Mike nodded. He really wanted to meet the new neighbors. It was always nice to make new friends, especially since not many people liked them.
"Do you and the boys want to deliver the cookies?" His mom asked, while putting the chocolate chip cookies into a Tupperware container. "Yeah," Mike replied, taking the cookies and running down into the basement.
When he got down there, the boys flocked to him, expecting the cookies were for them. Mike explained how they were to deliver the treats to the new neighbors. The boys agreed and they headed out the back door, towards the house with the huge moving truck.
The boys nervously approached the door. Mike lead them, since it was his mom's cookies after all. He reached for the doorbell, pressing it lightly. He heard heavy stomps coming towards the door. They all felt nervous. The door swung open to reveal the grown male twin who wore the suit. He looked grumpy and irritated. The boys sighed slightly, wishing one of the kids had answered.
"What?" The man hissed. "Uh," Mike began, fumbling with the Tupperware container, "We brought you some cookies... you know, to uh... welcome you to the neighborhood."
Mike held the container out towards the tall man, who looked pretty displeased for someone who was getting offered free food. The man took it from him.
"Uh... thanks?" The man replied, surprisingly nice.
Mike and the boys smiled as to say "you're welcome."
"Who's at the door, Grunkle Stan?"
A feminine voice called from inside the house. The boys grew even more nervous, knowing the pretty girl was close by.
"Just some weird neighbor kids," he called back.
Lucas clenched his fists at the man's comment. The man had just insulted them practically to their faces.
"Neighbor kids?" The girl asked, her voice coming closer.
Suddenly, the beautiful brunette appeared in the doorway, a friendly smile on her face. Her sweater was bright pink with a little rainbow patch sewn on. Her headband and skirt seemed to match perfectly. She was definitely unique to look at.
"Hey," she greeted, flashing her braces covered teeth, "I'm Mabel." "I'm Mike," he replied, holding out his pale hand for her to shake.
She took it with a smile. The other boys stepped forward.
"I'm Lucas." "I'm Dustin. Trust me when I say this, I'm the coolest guy you'll ever meet," she laughed at his comment. "And I'm Will." "It's really nice to meet you guys," she smiled, suddenly frowning slightly, "I'd invite you in, but alas, our house is a mess."
A mover went by, carrying a wax figure, which looked exactly like the guy in the suit, except with a maroon fez on his head. Mabel didn't seem to be phased by how weird that was, so none of the boys asked questions.
"Do you guys go to Hawkins Middle?" She asked. "Yeah, are you?" Mike replied.
She nodded, her brown locks bouncing with each movement.
"Mabel!" A kind, but authoritative voice called from inside, "Please come help unpack." "Coming, Ford!" she called to what was assumed to be the other man in the trench coat, "Listen, I gotta go, but I'll see you around?"
The boys nodded their head happily. She gave them one last smile before shutting the door. The boys ran back home, excited for school the following Monday, and their new friend.
