A few months had passed after the fight and divorce and I woke up to suitcases being dragged down the stairs.
ME: "Mum, what's all the noise?"
MUM: "Honey, pack all of your things. Were moving."
ME: "What? We can't move! What about all my friends?"
MUM: "I'm sorry, sweetheart. But you'll make new friends?"
ME: "Why can't I stay with dad?"
MUM: "Because he has a new girlfriend and I don't think that you would like her or her kids."
ME: "Why wouldn't I like her?"
MUM: "Because her daughter is Hannah Thomas!"
ME: "What the fuck!"
MUM: "Don't use that language in my house, young lady!"
ME: "This aint your house anymore, so I'll swear all I want!"
MUM: "Don't try and be cute Lauryn!"
I walked up the stairs, stomping, and went to my room. I got my suitcases and started packing. After a few hours, the moving van parked in front of our house. I looked out the window and saw my mum running outside. Did my eyes deceive me? My mother was kissing the man who was gonna drive us to are new house. I ran to Chad's room, but he wasn't there. I searched all around the house but he was nowhere to be found. And that was when I realised that he had already left ... with my dad.
Mum walked through the front door, with the man she was kissing, and I started sobbing.
MUM: "Oh, honey. It's gonna be OK."
ME: "No it wont!"
MUM: "Yes it will! It might take time to adjust but everything will be fine!"
ME: "Why didn't you tell me that Chad had left?"
MUM: "I'm sorry but it was his choice. He's eighteen years old. What do you expect me to do?"
ME: "So are you saying that I don't have a choice? Are you saying that I'm just a little kid?"
MUM: "No! Look, I'm sorry."
ME: "Fine!"
My mum gave me the tightest and most comforting hug. I looked up and stared at the man my mum was snogging.
ME: "Who's he?"
MUM: "Oh, this is John."
ME: "That brings me back to my first question ... who's he?"
MUM: "He is my ... boyfriend."
