Wednesday Evening
"Please turn in your Bibles to 1 Corinthians chapter 6 verses 9-11. These verses talk about what prevents you from entering the kingdom of God. And right in the middle of that, it says "nor men who have sex with men", therefore, homosexuality is a sin. You cannot be a Christian and believe that homosexuality is okay. You cannot be a Christian and allow homosexuality in your life. But, as Christians, we must tell them what they need to hear: change is possible. They can change from their sinful ways to the ways that God intended. Through God, all things are possible. Let us pray."
Really Dad, really.
I turn my head to see Philip. I guess he senses me staring at him so he turns his head to meet my gaze. My mom notices I'm not praying, so she nudges my arm and as I'm turning back around I see Philip smirk out of the corner of my eye.
I'm not sure why my dad decides to start preaching about homosexuality whenever Philip shows up, but it's really getting on my nerves. It's like he knows what's going on. He finishes leading us in prayer and stands back up to the podium, "Before you all leave, let me remind you: Sunday afternoon, after the morning service, there will be a cookout at my home. Everybody is welcome to come. God bless you all and be safe."
Friday at School
Philip is standing at his locker putting his books away. I walk up to him and for some unknown reason he looks angry.
"Hey, I was wondering if-"
"Wondering what? If I wanted to go fool around some more?"
Woah.
"What? Fool around?"
"Yeah Lukas, fool around. I see you here with Rose hanging on your arm like a love sick puppy. I've been thinking about how we've been, when you've still had a girlfriend. It's not fair to me or her. I'm not gonna be your little bitch. You're either going to break up with Rose, or whatever we are is done," says Philip slamming his locker.
"Philip wait!"
He doesn't turn around or even pause, he just keeps walking.
He's right. It's not fair to either one of them. I have to break up with Rose. Philip means more.
Friday Evening
To: Rose
Hey. Can I talk to you?
From: Rose
Yeah sure baby, what's up?
To: Rose
Would you wanna go out tonight?
From: Rose
Sure, we can go by the lake.
To: Rose
Okay, I'll pick you up in 5.
From: Rose
See ya babe. Be careful.
Stuffing my phone in my pocket, I walk out my bedroom door and down to the garage. I grab my keys and helmet, and roll my bike out to the gravel path. The low rumble starts to grow louder as I start riding down to Rose's house.

"Baby what's wrong," Rose questions.
I sigh. It's now or never. "We need to talk," she nods so I continue, "I think we need to break up."
Her face is expressionless. I have no idea what she's thinking or what she's going to say.
"Well, I can't say I'm surprised. We've been growing apart lately and I knew this was bound to happen."
I let out a breath of relief. "So you aren't mad?"
She shakes her head. "No, I'm not mad. I think we're better off as friends anyways."
"Okay good. But Rose, you are an amazing girl, don't forget that."
"I won't Lukas. Thank you."

I'm back home. I need to tell Philip.
It's only 7, I wonder if he'll wanna hang out, I mean, we don't have school tomorrow. Doesn't hurt to try.
To: Philip
I did it.
I wait a few seconds...and nothing. Normally he replies instantaneously. I wait for a few more minutes. While I wait, I decide to go ahead and get a shower.
When I get out, there's still no reply. That's weird. I text him again.
To: Philip
Philip? Are you okay?
From: Philip
Yeah, I'm fine. What'd you do?
Okay, thank God he's alright.
To: Philip
I broke up with Rose.
From: Philip
Wait, you did? Seriously?
To: Philip
Yeah, you mean more to me. And we agreed that we're better off friends anyways, so we're cool.
From: Philip
You wanna come over?
To: Philip
I was hoping you'd ask that. See you in a few.
From: Philip

I grab my keys once more and ride down to Philips house. When I get there he's standing by the barn.
"Hey!"
He turns around, looking very adorable with his hair all messed up.
"Hey. We're gonna hang out up here tonight. Is that okay with you?"
"As long as I'm with you I'm down for anything."
