Nico di Angelo had just exited his fourth period math class when three of his friends breezed past. That's rude, the tenth grader thought as he shouldered his bag and walked after them. A few yards in front of him, Jason Grace, his girlfriend Piper Mclean, and his friend Leo Valdez walked together, laughing about something. Nico bit his lip, feeling slightly left out, but then he had the brilliant idea to jump on Jason's back and surprise him. Grinning, he handed his backpack to the first person he could - who happened to be his step-sister Hazel - and ran towards his blonde friend. "Forgot about me already, Grace?" Nico asked, jumping on Jason's back and practically knocking his surprised friend down.

Jason turned his head and raised an eyebrow. "I'm sorry, who are you?"

That's when Nico realized that it WASN'T Jason and that the person who he had his arms around was NOT his best friend but a complete stranger. Mortified and surprised, Nico fell off the blonde boy's back and scrambled to his feet. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry, I thought you were someo - " Nico froze, taking in the sight in front of him. The stranger was tall, with golden curls and dotted freckles across his tanned face. And his eyes . . . Holy crap he was hot. The boy laughed, bringing Nico out of his daydream.

"It's alright," the boy said, his voice smooth and low. "I'm Will. Will Solace."

"Nico di Angelo," said Nico, nodding.

"Well, Nico," Will Solace said, a twinkle in his eyes. "It seems like you're falling for me already. Here's my number." Nico turned bright red at this, and he noticed that Will was slightly flushed and nervous too. Will handed him a slip of paper and walked off with his friends, who were teasing him ruthlessly, with a deep blush on his face.

Nico stood alone, clutching the piece of paper in one hand and covering his grin with the other.

"Who was that?" asked Hazel, walking over. "Oh, by the way, you dropped this." She dropped his backpack on his foot, causing Nico to wince and swear.

"That was not Jason, that's for sure," Nico said, staring at the number in his hand distractedly. Then, he punched it in his phone and sent a text, Hazel grinning beside him.
