Surviving. I am simply surviving- breating, eating, sleeping. Running. I don't know what I'm running from; all I know is that I can't stop. I was born a rogue. I don't know much about my parents, they died when I was young, leaving me in the care of their close friend, Rigdon. I quickly pushed thoughts of Rigs away- they would only bring me down. He was gone now, there is nothing I can do but avenge his death. I move quickly and stealthily around the territories of packs, knowing one wrong move could alert their patrols and it'd be over for me. Not by death, though. They wouldn't kill me- at least not yet. They would ship me, along with any other captured rogues, between large packs in the hopes of us finding a mate . The alphas are trying to clean up the place, I guess. Kind of sweep us under the rug. I guess the alphas think that the more rogues' mates can tame them, the less blood will be on their hands.
My name is Skylar Ray. I am 23 years old, and happily mate free. I don't really want or believe in "mates." I've seen people who say they're mated and in love, but that doesn't look like love, more like a creepy obsession. A mate would probably slow me down anyways. I'm working on ways to convince people that not all rogues are bad- shocker. People just automatically think you're evil if you don't have a pack. Well, here's some news- not everyone is born, or even wants to be, in a pack. That doesn't make you crazy, much to many wolves' chargin. At the very least, I want the rogue hunts to be stopped. I understand if a rogue committed a crime then they should be hunted down, but killing any wolf just because they don't belong to a pack? That makes them the bad guys.
I am torn out of my revere by the sound of snarling wolves close by, and the pounding of paws coming my way. I take off at fast as my lithe wolf body will allow, cursing myself for not being more careful. The sound of paws hitting the damp forest floor are still behind me, but don't seem to be gaining on me. Huh, seems like someones getting a little lazy. Thank goodness they aren't any faster, I don't know how I'd manage to get away with my wolf going a little crazy today-
My paws skidded as I slowed, struggling to formulate a new plan. A massive wolf was blocking my path, and only way out. This wolf was amazing- he was huge, bigger than an alpha, which is impressive in itself. His body rippled with muscles and power, and his coat was black as night with a deep red tint to it. His eyes were a golden color that watched my every move like he knew what I would do next.
Icy cold fear tied knots in my belly. There was no way I could make it around him without a fight, and I had to keep the at least 4 wolves behind me in mind.
My wolf was quiet now, simply quivering in excitment like a puppy, and I had a dreadful feeling that the wolf in front of me was the culprit. I bared my teeth at him, crouching down like I was ready to pounce. I gave him my meanest snarl, that he didn't even flinch at. The wolves behind me had finally caught up and I turned so that I could face both dangers. A steel gray wolf snarled and lunged at me as soon as he was close enough to, but he never made it to me. I could've handled it myself, but the massive wolf was suddenly on top of me, shielding me from the other wolves.
Immediatly, I panicked and ran out from underneath him and made a break for it while I could.
